I have two SS zenith Daytona both have black dial because after owning and wearing my U series I found out the A series which was produced around year 2000 has SEL. I don’t mind to get a white dial zenith Daytona as well one day. Also will not hesitate to add a black dial Daytona 500C to accompany the white dial I have as soon as my AD calls. A 4-digit Daytona will be my grail watch but can’t tick away so much money at the moment.
Hoping I could double up on the 4-digit red sub. Love the MK1 that I have, and want another one as my birth-year watch if I come across with a nice example. Afterall it makes more sense to me to collect vintage models as they will only get more scared relatively speaking compared to the modern references. Oh and I also have a date and a no-date sub both BNIB - does that count? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For investment purposes? You'd be better off "gambling" on a stock going up that a watch. Take that money and buy some Roku or something.

I could see buying a son/daughter a birth year watch and sticking it in the safe until they are ready. Maybe I’ll find a 2013 NOS dj or OP or something for my daughter. It would be pretty cool to give it to them 18 years later, or when they graduate college.
For collecting purposes, if you are stuffing a new sub in the safe, better be willing to wait 30 year or more. Plus the watch will need 3 services in between that timespan. If you want to buy collectible Rolex, buy pre Daytona’s. They are still cheap-ish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

A few years ago I worked for a company owned by an extremely wealthy individual. One of the company pilots was leaving, and at his farewell function the company owner presented him with a Rolex GMT. I really wanted one of those but didn't think I could justify the expense, so bought myself a shiny new Breitling Chrono Superocean. Not long afterwards I decided to leave the company. I was senior to Captain GMT and had been with the company longer, so was expecting something special as a parting gift. One of the directors had hinted something about a watch, so at my farewell lunch I wisely decided not to wear my Breitling. A very nice lunch, followed by flattering speeches and finally... time for the gift presentation. I'd been having Rolex fantasies throughout lunch, and finally my dream was to come true. Imagine my disappointment when the boss proudly presented me with a ...a Breitling Chrono Superocean! |

I just re-read your post. I had thought you said you bought a second watch of the same reference because you thought it would double. Hence my investment comment. I see now I mis-read your words.
