Thoughts on this 1680
I’m thinking of looking at this 1680 since it’s close to where I live, but I have some questions on originality. The dial looks re-finished to me. Any thoughts?

Dial is indeed refinished, insert isn't correct, hands look uneven in colour and the case has certainly had a polish.
There are better examples out there. |

Chris, ask yourself this: With the quality of those photos, particularly the out-of-focus back of case shot, and the mention that there's only "SOME LIGHT SCUFFS UNDER VERY CLOSE EXAMINATION" (hardly!) how much do you trust them with buying a watch that's close to $10K?

1680
Sorry to jump in on this thread but have a similar query; in the market for a 1680 but not sure if this one is original or has had dial replaced. Seems not so much patina for 58x serial, should be 1978. I'm no expert by any means but like the model. It looks similar to an mk2 dial with the open 6s on 660 ft, L of Rolex to left of crown? The h in chronometer and C in certified also line up, but no other letters really align.
However when I view other mark 2 dials the hour marker paint looks not so "thick". Thanks! |

^^^ That looks like a service dial? it also looks like the bezel needed to be replaced when the dial was replaced, but I question if this watch is artificially aged to try and garner more value. Honestly I'm no expert collector, but I would be asking questions and if it was me(which it's not) I would avoid it.

The watch with the faded insert is a mk2 dial.
Loom looks ok to me but hopefully someone with more knowledge of this will chip in. |

Thanks Oliver. Yep not too concerned about the condition and polishing mainly if the dial
has been modified at all. Thanks! |
