Welcome to TRF! I personally would do the 2 Rolex ( one for the weekday and one for the weekend) . Then when the addiction really kicks in... trade/sell/repeat.

With 20K I would do more research. A lot more out there than just Rolex and AP. Would you buy any of those watches you mention if they were just sitting in dealer's cases?

Now now, Luther.

I know you're looking for a Forum fight but this isn't 1000BC and it's not Rome.

Not trying to burst your bubble but your not going to get a hulk and a blusey for 20k even if you are lucky enough to get at retail. On the grey market I would say those 2 if lucky and full sets would be about 28k. AP is a great watch in a collection imo. If a one and only though I’d take the 2 Rolex. Maybe get a bluesy and a DJ41. That’s the only 2 watches you would ever need and it’s more realistic to be closer to that 20k mark especially if you go DJ41 steel with jubilee is a lot of versatility. I’d do rhodium dial as well if I got the bluesy or the hulk.

I owned a similar AP and sold it quickly as it did nothing for me. I wear a Sub (WG blue dial) everyday. So with your budget I would buy the SUb you love most and save the remainer for a future watch.

If your collection is smaller, you may want to consider 2 watches for some variety. I am also battling the decision to expand my collection or consolidate into a couple of grail pieces

Seriously looking at and considering an AP right now. Just curious about why you say that it's easier to live with? Are their movements more fragile than Rolex in general?

At MSRP, I’d say Rolex would have you more fun. The AP is great but is too dressy for me

Who said anything about a metal bracelet?

Besides, what I mean is that if he’s going that north with his budget, he may as well go a little more and go for Patek.

I hope that clarifies the mater for you...

The AP RO is a fine watch. Not so much the grey dial though.

Clearly this is a rhetorical question as nobody that is just spending $20k is going to get both Rolexes nor a 15500 for $20,000. Maybe the Rolexes for $30,000 and the 15500 for $25k. I stopped at our local AP dealer yesterday and asked about the 15500 and he said his 2019 allocation has already been sold and paid for and he had more people on the list than he possibly could get in the 2020 AP allocation. And I was not even specific as to dial color.

I daily my Daytona ceramic white dial. My two APs are not daily watches but weekend ones. Wearing AP, I do feel more confident

AP expect service every 5 yrs. AP also costs more to service, depending on where you are. Rolex service interval recommended on their website is 10 years, but I’ve known folks who went 15 years + without issues.

If you really don't know which watch to buy you should do more research. After all, you will be the one stuck with it. And yes, the Rolex, in my experience, is more durable than the AP. If that matters to you.

AP watches are awesome. So our Rolexes. But AP, pretty nice!

Both watches are my grail.
What do you think is a better buy?

rolex all the way. The 116613 is flashier while the hulk is more tool. Two options. best way to go. RO would be a good get later on.

Welcome to the forum.

When I’m spending my hard earned money on a watch or two in that price range, whatever it is, I’d better be GaGa over it. I would buy the one that you know you’ll enjoy wearing.
