Incoming...new daily on the dressier side.
As some of you may know, I recently tried on the VC FiftySix Day-Date (silver dial) and was absolutely shocked at how much I enjoyed it. I heard about the release of the FiftySix line a few years ago and do recall liking the line but at the time, did not really focus on it as I felt the rotation did not need something in that 'category'. Reviews were certainly mixed when they came out initially and I would say they still are to this day!
I was in search for something on the dressy side, on strap, in SS or WG but something that was more wearable on a day to day basis. Was looking at some JLC variants, Grand Seiko, and IWC. All lovely...particularly the new IWC 40mm automatic and the JLC MUT small seconds and the date version too. But when I tried on the VC in silver dial/SS, the dial just popped. It's one of those watches that really looks better in person because of the subtle variations in dial surface, color, materials. It is SO MUCH BETTER than any editorial pics you will find. I thought it was the one...but something was in my ear saying wait to see the self-winding date in person if you can. While the complications were great on the day-date, I was really hoping to see what that dial that I was really most drawn to would look like uncluttered, free from complications, etc. Well, timing is everything...literally the day I made arrangements with my AD to take a look at the day-date again (and possibly buy it), they said that the self-winding, in SS, silver dial was coming in over the next few days. Long story short, as soon as I put the two side by side and had them both on the wrist, the choice was clear. I know, I know, not truly an in-house movement (though I'd argue finished better some in-house from other offerings), technically an 'entry-piece' into VC...all of that became irrelevant when I strapped it on. |

And pics...which somewhat capture the different tones of the dial. And yeah, somehow in this last one the Maltese Cross on the crown caught the sun and was bouncing off my hand!!!

Wow - Very Nice
Thank you for sharing this. I was never a huge FiftySix fan, but seeing yours may have changed that. That is really a beautiful watch. That watch oozes versatility and can be dressed up or down. Well chosen!

The day-date, for what its worth, felt sportier in my opinion. Thicker case, busier dial. But equally as beautiful. |

Congrats and agree its a piece that looks far better in person. Did you acquire it through CH? Tourneau?

Thank you! Agreed, not a lot of them here in the forum and I have not yet seen one in the wild (not to suggest that these are rare or exclusive or anything like that, just that I haven't seen them).

Thanks for all the comments! Still firmly in the honeymoon period...perfectly suitable with sweatpants and a sweatshirt (which has become my daily work attire for more than a year now anyway haha).

Love this watch. I recently decided between this and the Overseas. I eventually ordered the OS because I have a couple of dressier pieces, but it was tough. Congrats!

I have the day-date and wonder why that has the geneva seal on the case and the date only doesn’t? I would expect the case finishing to be identical.

Nevertheless the Date only is a beautiful watch and I've been tempted a few times especially the blue dial. |

Congratulations @jed11 on your FiftySix and I don't see it as any less to other VCs. I agree with you that it's a watch that one has to see and try in person.
Here's mine. I haven't seen or met anyone wearing the FiftySix so far, more so any VCs in the wild. |
