My first Grand Seiko is ordered

I finally ordered my first Grand Seiko. I had been looking for a black dial casual/sporty watch and had looked at a lot of watches from the Rolex OP (nice watch) to the Omega Aqua Terra and so on. I like most I looked at but hadn’t yet made a choice. I then started looking more into GS and ran across a model, the SBGR257 and instantly liked it. I knew about GS quality and fit and finish already but many of them seemed to dressy to me. This one, with the crown guards especially, looks more casual and right up my alley. To finalize the deal, an AD from which I have bought other brands from before, gave me a crazy price I couldn’t resist. I’m not exactly sure when it will be in, as they seem a little hard to get, but I assume in a month or so I’ll be wearing it and I can’t wait

Congrats. Classy watch. Subtle to the untrained eye but will get the nod from other WIS in respect of a quality product. I have two GS and love that aspect of them. Looking forward to the wrist shots

This most be a new edition because I owned this exact design about 10 years ago. It had the wettest looking black dial on any watch I owned. It was beautiful. At that time though I need a watch with lume.

Congrats on it.

Yea a “wet” dial is a great way to put it. I hope this one is dripping

Great watch. It was reference SBGR057 until last year when they changed the dial layout to remove the "SEIKO" logo.

Agreed. The dials are much better since they dropped the SEIKO and moved the GS upstairs where it belongs.

GS doesn’t really need any lume as the zaratsu lights up like a pinball machine in the slightest ray of light. You get really beautiful light play in dark concert halls etc.

But a lot of people have been asking for lume and looks like they’ve pulled off a good compromise. Look forward to seeing a lime shot when you get it!

Enjoy.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have lume actually. I haven’t seen it listed anywhere that it does. I think the indices are flat at the top and appears as lume but isn’t. I could be wrong

Good. Putting lume on a zaratsu GS would be unnecessary IMHO.

I thought the white strip on the middle of the hands might be lume, but totally a guess. It looked a bit like the SBGA005 which has lume.

I am a lume fanatic, but I am willing to live without it on a dress watch.
Looking forward to live pix of this watch.

That's the one Adam! Thanks.

I have owned so many watches I tend forget the models.

My issue with no lume was when I was in the Middle East I required lume for late night excursions that weren't always planned. So I needed to know the time.

These days it wouldn't be a big deal. But at that time in life it was a huge deal. That is why I sold my Sub/SD/E2 and decided the SBDX001 fit that need.
