I tried going the vintage route with this 5513 (67 vintage).

Although I loved the reference for its character and charm it always felt like a bit of a museum piece on the wrist. Too delicate to wear worry free ... I know that might just be me, but honestly I used to think about that a bit too much.

I really like the modern iteration the most

While I love the vintage looks, of the 5513, the 16610 and it’s non date counterpart. The new subs have no real appreciable functional improvements after the 16610. The bracelet has 6 fine options to adjust, classic proportions, and bezel that won’t crack. The only improvement being the luminova.

I genuinely love all Subs especially the ones I own, but my favourite has to be the LVc. It was my first Rolex and was bought to celebrate the birth of my Daughter.

Hmmm...

A 5517 would be nice, but I'd probably be afraid to wear it, which is just silly. The sword hands and tritium maker on the dial just knock it out of the park.

The 5512 is awesome. I've been collecting parts for a LOOOOONG time to get mine done. Almost there (late 1967 model in my case). Tribute to McQueen with the early '68 C&I on it too.

The 1680 is the first (Rolex) sub with a date. Red is awesome, but I actually prefer the late red dials, more than the early ones, which are not as vibrant. I have a 3.9m serial 1680 that currently wears a Mk. I white dial, which is a very clean look. Top hat is mandatory... Sharp corners and BIG date magnification. The service crystals just don't do it the same. The Seadweller uses a superdome with date if you like that look. The 1680 needs the top hat.

Tudor 9411, both blue and black. The blue is so cool as it was essentially a sub, but with some color. A nice departure from the sea of black dial watches (although the originals were navy blue and often mistaken for black after long storage in the dark). Hacking and quick-set date function too, when the Rolex had neither. Surprising it wasn't more popular...

14060 four-line dial (modern 5512) is really a nice piece from the pre-ceramic era. I was seriously contemplating one of these but I got hung up on the rehaut engraving, which put me off at the time. Now it's quite common and not as "in your face" as the ads made it appear. Obviously I should have grabbed one back then...

The enduring 16610. The LV (first year) is on the "grail" list for me, but the overall package of the 16610 makes it a great "only watch", which it was/is for many people when it was the current sub. But, I still prefer the warmth and character of a plexi sub over the sapphire models. That green bezel insert and maxi dial really sharpen the look of the 16610.

116600 (Seadweller) I guess is technically not a "sub" but it is the only "modern" ceramic sub I'd consider. Even the newest 126600 (which ticks all the boxes on paper except the crystal Cyclops for me) just got wrecked when the Cyclops was added. [has anyone removed the Cyclops yet?]

So there you go!

LVc. The sunburst dial is simply stunning, and contrary to what some believe, it goes well with anything. My brother picked up a preloved beauty about 3 years ago for a great price before all this insanity started. And I’m “green” with envy.

I love many 4 and 5 digit references. Notably the 5512 4 lines, the Red 1680 (although I'm not a huge fan of the hat shaped plexiglass), the double red sea Dweller.

But my favorite is a 16618 with no lug holes.

Lucky me, this is the one that I'm wearing today.

116610LN a bit understated in look, but works with any dress level.

My favorites are the late model 5513s - especially with the addition of a high dome crystal.

1) 14060 2 line the winner - simple and clean, classic

2) 116613LB - the best ceramic

3) comex - the legend

Milsub without question.....

Followed by a 5513 Maxi dial and then the 16610LV.
