I own the Exp and love it, but it's my one and only. Given your existing collection I think I might lean toward the 58 as I feel it offers a bit more novelty than the Exp.

At the moment it's a dead heat between the two. And in my mind I'm still a solid 50/50. I think it's a pretty solid showing for the BB58, as it's getting a lot of love compared to a Rolex classic like the EX I (although it's admittedly not the hottest reference out there.)

There's no question the explorer is an excellent watch, but for me the BB58 looks like a lot more fun. I'd keep the BB58.

These are the only two I currently own, and I think they easily co exist. If keeping both were an option I would choose option C!

I have found that the simplicity of the Explorer one to be the most attractive feature, the 39mm size makes this version just the right size for superior legibility at a glance.

The BB58 may not be as iconic as the Sub, however the Tudor sub line has been around just as long and I have found the new movement to be as reliable as the Sub I sold off a year ago.

Having had and sold that same Explorer, the 58 without hesitation. (But I’ve found I prefer dive watches.)

Crazy how much love the 58 is getting! I have a 116610ln and 58 and always in back of my mind consider switching to Explorer and 58 for some diversity (which I likely won’t do anytime soon). Curious why you want to get rid of one?

Some weird thing where I don't like to have more than 4 or 5 watches. I have 2 planned incomings soon and something should go. But I equally like both.

Same here. I find if I get above 3-4 watches, I feel gross and excessive and I have to cut something loose (but I'm a minimalist). Also, after having the 214270, I really not interested in another polished bezel again, other than my stupid high value Oceanus that somehow seems to never scratch. And I'm not even into spendy watches at the moment, so I don't know what my 3-4 limit problem is...

Keep the Explorer. I even think the BB58 is a more attractive watch. There is just something about the Explorer. It's a no BS kind of watch. Nothing fancy. Not that stylish. It is THE definition of a tool watch. It was made to be used. That is what i like about it.

This, which I found hilarious, is in fact a great analogy. The Explorer is timeless. It would be a shame to let go.

As an update to this, the BB58 won out. But I did love the 214270, and it could come back into the collection sometime in the future.

So I think the BB58 is a great idea, and looks great in photos...I have yet to see it in person, despite going to a few boutiques with none available... But after seeing your two photos back to back... Explorer all the way...no contest... but that's my opinion.

Edit: oops just saw your last post after typing this... and I also voted for the wrong watch in the poll...simply because I assumed I was voting for the one to keep... not that it matters.

I'd keep the Explorer, and sell the BB598, and it isn't close for me.

I like both, and ideally would keep both, but if I was going to only have 1 watch out of these 2, it would certainly be the Explorer.

I have had the same dilema but decided to let go of the 58 to fund another watch. I would have kept both but for my desire to get add a new watch to my collection and the BB was not getting too much wrist time. The BB 58 is a great design yet I could not get the bracelet to fit just right and the gilt dial/bezel combo was ultimately not for me. I prefer the clean and crip white/black contrast of explorer's dial and find the explorer bracelet to be so much more comfortable.

The BB58 has a in-house movement. I where my 58 more as a “beater” than my other Rolex’s. Good call on keeping it, the 58 is a special watch.

+1 on the BB58, having owned both, I can’t get away from the timing bezel for daily wear. Use it to time every day.

I really think the BB is gorgeous! The Explorer is kinda bland.

I had an Explorer and had the chance to get a BB58 but passed on it. Felt that the quality and finish was slightly better on the Explorer. Although I liked the vintage touches on the BB58, I felt like I might get bored of it eventually whereas the Explorer is a timeless classic.

I did a comparison of my Tudor Black Blue ETA with an Explorer only yesterday. I chose to stick with the Tudor and removed myself from the waiting list to acquire one.

I'd agree as an owner of both that the Explorer is slightly better in terms of quality and finish. But is "slightly" worth another 3K? I'd also say that the calibre in the Tudor is slightly better than the one in the Explorer.

Just curious what makes you say the calibre in Tudor (bb58?) is slightly better than Eplorer?

Silicon hairspring is I think better than the paracom (but I think TH new carbon is better again). It was developed by Omega, Rolex and Patek. Rolex are beginning to bring it in but quite slow. 70 hour power reserve and generally from most reports include some data collected by Purple Haze (?) it has been more accurate. So... Marginally, I think better.

Mind you the better build quality of the Explorer I feel comes down to both watches being built for purpose. The Tudor is built more to be a tool watch while the Explorer is built to cover all bases so it needs to be comfortable in more formal settings as well as on the boardwalk.

Tough one & knew this would be a close vote ... but the Black Bay 58, by a whisker.

I have the 58 thinks it's a real winner, reasons I've pointed out on several occasions.

I have been close to buying the Explorer while in my local AD at least 3 times BUT on each occasion turned it down. There was something that just didn't sing to me.
Now I'd be a fool to deny that sometime in the future I may get the Explorer and I think you could easily have both in a collection. Different watches

My choice will likely be to own both. Unless something new blows me away in 2020, the 58 will be my next high end watch. Focused on Seiko until then.
