I don't know the impetus of the original poster, but there are interesting incidents where items can and have been subject to seizure and forfeiture. For a number of reasons without initial case-by-case judicial review: https://www.versustexas.com/criminal/seizure-of-cash/
While I am sure the vast majority of these seizures and forfeitures are upheld and valid, there are some notable cases where the money or assets are rightfully and legally obtained by the owner and there are no laws broken and the assets or monies are returned (or mostly returned). For example one case I recall an elderly gentleman had his retirement fund in cash traveling on Amtrak and it was seized because it was suspicious then mostly returned after some time (and effort). I think it is an interesting subject that may be of interest to the members' of the forum. |
