Job interview tomorrow: Bluesy or no watch?

Bluesy will be on a blue Rubber B band. So it won’t be TOO flashy. Job is a mid-level management role at a notable tech company where most people might be wearing Apple Watches normally. Would like to set a good impression (and demonstrate I’ve had success in the past in terms of experience and financially) but also don’t want to be judged for wearing a “flashy” watch. Attire in the office appears to be very casual. I will be wearing a button down, jeans, probably white common project sneakers. Nothing too fancy.

Thoughts?

You have nothing to gain and the possibility of downside by wearing it. Unless you consider this a good luck charm or feel more confident wearing it, I’d just skip it altogether.

I wouldn't worry about the watch. No one notices. At all.

I work for a US software company, and whilst the dress code of most leans more to casual, don't find yourself dressing too casual. At worst case I'd be wearing slacks, blazer, white shirt and nice shoes. Mind you I'm not a young millennial.

Good luck with the interview.

I wouldn’t. Nobody gonna hire you in tech because of your watch. But there is a chance you’ll rub someone the wrong way.

It’s an interesting point that Tim Mosso said about him personally not wearing any watch to his interviews because it show you are “hungry”or really want the job. However others argue that people who are into watches might take notice and treat you differently. Differently can go either good and the interviewer is like “I like that guy” or it can go “fuck that guy, walking in here with a Rolex”

If it were me I would do without, and after I get the job. Wear it all day every day with the shame. Good luck on the interview dude!

I'd personally never wear a blue strap watch to an interview, I'd rather just go in with the original TT bracelet if you want to wear the Bluesy. I'd probably skip it all together. The pieces I'd wear would be to see if the interviewer happened to be a WIS, so APs, Daytona, other hard to get Rolexes. Otherwise, what's the point.

You should wear the bluesy. It shows confidence. I live and work in silicon valley. Don't be ashamed and don't conform!

Wear it. Only those that know will care. It might even open a door.

If an interviewer would disqualify me from the running of a position based on a watch I would wear, is not a place of enjoyment I would want to work for.

I wouldn’t. You really don’t know how your interviewer will perceive it or if he’ll even notice it but it’s not worth it to risk it IMO. We love our watches and want to wear them every day but for these few hours, I suggest leaving it at home or at the very least, hide it in your pocket during the interview. That’s what I did: wore it to the office, put it in my pocket for the interview, aced said interview and put it back on as I walked out. Got the job and wore it loud and proud on day 2 (was still afraid for day 1). Ultimately, it’s your decision

Don't wear a watch.

Just make sure that you are fifteen minutes early.

Your cellphone will be all you need to accomplish that.

Make sure your phone is turned off before the interview.

If u feel like the watch is going to play a factor in you not securing the job then dont wear it. Personally i wouldnt wear it if I were going for a job interview. Wear it after you get the job. Best of luck for the interview.

Doesn’t matter either way. If you make a good impression and they like you they won’t care what kind of watch your wearing. Do what makes you happy.

Let your charisma, eloquence, and experience speak for itself if you want the interviewer to take note of your success. The watch is not the answer if you want to convey that.

I work in tech and I would have no problem wearing it for an interview...especially dressed down on a rubber strap. If they noticed the watch and made a comment, I would explain that it is a passion of mine and I am fortunate to have been in a position to purchase it. If they were to negatively judge you for wearing it, I would have bigger questions about working for someone who would value that over my prior experience or potential to add value to the company.

If it’s tech, nobody is going to care either way. Everyone knows that the people around them make money, it’s not a big secret. Wear it if you want to, just don’t wear it if you are going to be thinking about it.

Concentrate on the interview. If it’s Apple, maybe leave it at home. If it’s amazon, nobody will notice, and you have bigger concerns in that interview than the watch your wearing. Good luck!

I've worked as an engineer in the tech industry for 15 years (graduated when I was 20, 35 now). I haven't interviewed anyone for management, but have conducted countless technical interviews.

I don't think there is anything wrong with showing up wearing your Sub as far as giving off the "wrong" impression. Rather, I would say it's more like showing up with Stanford or MIT on your resume. Obviously it takes a certain degree of competency and success to be able to own such a watch, and if one of your interviewers recognizes that then you need to be prepared to knock it out of the park. As long as you have full confidence in your abilities, then I would say go for it!

Good luck!

Your hiring should be determined by your merits such as leadership qualities, management experience, aspirations, project management, team building capabilities. It should never be based on whether or not you wear any watch. I would not want to work for someone judges me based on my choice of accessory, be it positive or otherwise.

It is a part of you, and it is you that is applying for the role.
Let them accept you or otherwise on your merits.
Best wishes fo a successful interview.

My last interview the interviewer wore a black sub. I made a comment about it and we briefly talked watches in the elevator. It broke the ice. Got the job.

I’ve interviewed a few people and I always check out their watch. Won’t disqualify them if they wore something fancy.

I would think more about the clothes you are planning on wearing...jeans and white sneakers for a middle mgmt role?

The watch - 98% chance no one will notice and 2% chance it will be a wis who thinks its cool. Wear the watch.
