I bought the first watch I could find.

Just for grins, I went into our classifieds section here, and the first watch that I might want to own (in this case, again) was a nearly new hulk with all the stuff for $14,700.

No intent to assassinate the seller, but OMG, this is getting past the point of being ridiculous, isn't it?

Also, found a couple of 14060M around 7K. Not NOS or anything special. Nutty.

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's been discussed to death already. I'm just stunned at these prices.

It's a free world where nobody forces you to buy. I find it rather amusing that so many people expect to buy way below market value.
Like it is normal if you buy a watch at retail and you can make a couple of bucks the moment you walk out.

Smart enthusiast don’t buy now. Only the newbies would pay $15k for a $9k SS watch. This isn’t rocket science or even complicated. It’s about immediate gratification but those feelings wear off and when the prices go back to normal these people with limited experience will be disgusted and use social media as a bullhorn for their temper tantrum‘s.

It depends only on the size of your wallet. Money is easily forgotten whilst wearing a nice watch gives you a smile every day.

Not really. Just cause I can afford to pay a inflated price doesn’t mean I would. It’s not the money but the principal of knowing I paid way too much which would naw at me. It’s not like Rolex is doing anything new or revolutionary you couldn’t have purchased the last 10 years at or below msrp. That is a major issue most long term players in this game recognize.
There are other very nice watches out there without such a absurd mark up. Most enthusiast are now doing a end run around Rolex to AP and other brands. Look at it this way.... Rolex is so conservative they are not going anywhere so wait them out. This is like paying $50 for a box of Cornflakes when Wheaties is on sale right next to it for $2.99.

It's a fishing expedition. Some people are willing to leave their hook in the water for a long time.
Might get a nibble or might hook a whale.

Regardless of the price I ask, buyers always try and (successfully) talk me down.

Once in a blue moon, some moron (usually me) excitedly says “I’ll take it!” And may even try and talk you up in price.

I think the problem people are not mentioning is that the fiat currencies in the world are being printed at massive levels. All asset classes are in a bubble (real estate, stocks, etc.). Buying a watch that I enjoy over retail is a minor issue compared to the big picture. I wanted to get into AP and PP, but even those watches have went up in pricing and faster than Rolex. If price is the issue then Tudor is always attainable with similar quality.

There are lot more better brands than Tudor... Omega, JLC, GO, VC etc., plus you get good deals on them

In all seriousness, what does this even mean? I still have to work for my money, regardless of what quantity is being printed. Please explain!

This IS the new normal, there is no going back. 5 years from now people will be saying, "Remember when we could get a BLRO for 18k?"

I agree. Omega is better than Tudor. But Omega doesn't make the watch I want. Why can't it make a GMT that is about the same diameter and height as a Rolex GMT? I like the Tudor GMT but it is a little bigger than the Rolex GMT. Omega should make a GMT based on the 300M or the PO 39.5.

Heights for comparison:
Rolex GMT 12mm
Omega 300m 13.56mm
Omega PO 39.5 14.2mm
Tudor GMT 14.6mm

Hot watches = high prices. One of them is discontinued and the other might very well soon be. Prices can go much higher and most likely will.
