YG Submariner Blue vs Black?

I recently tried on the black dial YG submariner for the first time and was really impressed by it. I instantly loved the classic clean look, even more than the blue dial. Most of the discussions on YG submariners tend to be of the blue dial. Why is that?

Which do you prefer and why?

Photos from the Rolex website.

If I were buying one of these, I'd be very Tempted by the Blue. All the blue photos look WAY better than the black.

I'm sure someone will be along to post theirs and you can see what I mean.

LOVE the blue but I think the black is probably more versatile. I guess it depends on your collection and how and when you will be wearing it.

For me, this is an aspirational piece and I would ultimately go with the one that spoke to me the most and that is definitely the blue.

Something about the blue that really pops out more than the black against the gold and I'm a huge fan of black watches. In the end, you'll just have to go find the blue and see it in person to compare, it can be really hard looking at just pictures sometimes.

As a Bluesy owner, obviously I'm biased (were I to go full PM Sub). What I've never understood is why Rolex doesn't give the black dial the same gold letter writing that they do on the blue dial. Giving the black dial only white writing, makes it look stark by comparison to the blue IMO.

I personally would go blue. I purchased mine a couple of weeks ago and still find myself going to the watch box just to look at it when it’s not on my wrist ;)

Owned the 5 digit blue sub several years, the sunburst dial is absolutely striking but when the time came to upgrade to the 6 digit, I chose the black dial version as I found it to be smoother and more classic.

I hadn’t notice that. Interesting!

I’ve tried on the blue dial on a separate occasion and thought it was nice, but the black in the metal was kind of shockingly nice. I love how it is understated (to the extent that a gold watch be). I also think that the blue definitely photographs better than the black dial.

Thanks for the responses!

Like one of the posters above, I prefer the blue in two tone but if bought full gold it would be black all the way.

I’ve just got a TT Submariner black dial, to me the TT black dial is nicer and cooler than the Blue on TT, however on full YG I prefer the Blue!??! Go figure!!

The black is stunning and goes with everything. The blue is amazing as well, but I feel is less dressy than the black.

I went into the store thinking black and came out with the blue, after seeing it light up the whole showroom.

Based on the real life photos, it has to be the blue.

I have the black dial YG sub. I prefer the black to the blue. I find the contrast to be more striking and while the blue dial is beautiful I find it too "showy" in the same vein that I dislike the green dial SS Sub. Just too much color.

I personally love the black. I owned one and regret selling it now. It was a bold statement on the wrist but held a certain subtlety with the plain black dial and bezel.

I’m not allergic to the bold colours, I enjoy the hulk. That said, with the YG I just prefer the black and yellow combination
