Sea-Dweller, the ultimate "tool watch"

Tool watch can have wear and scratches and you don't have to whine when you get hairline scratches to the clasp from desk diving.

You must use a bomb if you want to destroy a Sea-Dweller.

Rolex has a lot of tasteless models that I would never wear... but 16600 SD represents everything I like about the Rolex brand.

I love it too, the 40mm 4K Sea-Dweller is perfect, not the 44mm colossus with a mismatched and disproportionate bracelet or the 43mm with the cyclops highlighting an unnecessary date complication.

I have to agree, my 666 is scuffed and nowhere near the bling factor of the modern models, and although I had a wobble recently about selling and replacing it with something more modern, I decided to keep it and just add to my collection as opposed to swapping things out. I still have some regret about letting my Kermit go all of those years ago, and I dont want the same feeling about the SD going. My AD thinks its crazy that its my "work" watch, but I remind him that the first function of these watches was as tools.

Yeah... I never understood those "Oh my, I got my first scratch from the corner of my desk... I have to polish this and change a tampon too..." haha.

These are made for HARD USE... they are men's sports watches. Not designed to be "pampered".

I have been in the position of instructing divers with regards to operations on equipment installed on the sea bed from the comfort and safety of a vessel, if anyone has ever witnessed a commercial diver at work they would understand what these watches are capable of taking in regards to abuse .... even clambering around in sat chambers or getting in and out of dive bells, let alone the operations they routinely carry out .... these watches were evolved from divers and their requirements, it says it all for me.

The 16600 is the only watch I sold and then almost immediately purchased again. I love the heft and the diameter. I'll never let it go again.

Loved my first SD, until it was stolen :-( But I've been enjoying the "44mm colossus with a mismatched and disproportionate bracelet" for 5 years and it's been my go too.

Yeah but it's a part of Sea-Dweller model series too.

Sea-Dweller, the ultimate "tool watch"

Much as I ultimately prefer my 126600 for a variety of reasons, trading my old 16600 was the only trade I now regret.

It’s a fantastic reference and the last of the true “tool” divers Rolex made IMO

Although there was a good reason for the trade!

A G Shock is a tool watch; a Rolex isn’t. And the 43, delightful as it is, can scratch and mark, despite the ceramic . It’s a great luxury watch with world-class engineering. But a tool watch.....hardly. The price tells you that.

Right...it’s all unnecessary! You should just wear a Ball then you could avoid the embarrassment of someone noticing your Rolex and commenting on it!

I have a G shock and it can scratch as well...not sure what that has to do with it. If someone uses it as a tool, it’s a tool watch. The watch doesn’t know how expensive it is...

Exactly. Good tools are rarely inexpensive.

The 16600 was my first Rolex and the one I miss the most. It didn't see as many dive hours as Peter's but was definitely higher than average.

The deepsea is useful in the event you need to club any marine wildlife you deem a threat.
