Didn't watch it all thru, but interesting about the lens.
I can't justify the purchase unfortunately.
I wish I had more time for photography. Atm, not even worthy of my d850.

Never said about being worthy HAH as I am surely not either of my D5 but still a gearhead here I must admit.. That new zoom will be awesome but surely will sell close to 10K I would bet..

Yeah, I bet it will be super expensive.
I spent a weekend alongside a good friend who is a professional sports photographer, at the imsa races at road America. He shoots Nikon. It's a whole big world that I don't know much about.

I got about 1% of decent shots, freehand though with a 24-70 that I don't have much love for anyway.

His photos are amazing.

The person behind the camera is invariably more important than the camera.

The bottom line is that in photography there are the people that pursue the gear and people that pursue the art of photography. And some are a blend of both.

Nothing wrong with either if you have the money to chase gear.

My god, my friend. You do have a LOT of toys.

I watched the video and what strikes me is how on earth did we ever take great pictures before all these bells and whistles.

Well. We just did.

No auto focus, no auto anything. No wifi, in fact nobody knew where we were, or cared, I'm sure.

The last camera I bought was a Canon 1Ds Mark 3 in 2008. I paid $5000 for it I think and used it every day. I looked it up and now it's worth $250. But the amazing thing is, it still takes incredible pictures, 21MP which I enlarged to 24x30 and 30x40.

What I found fascinating listening to this guy is his description of xx9 camera coming out is going to blow xx8 camera out of the water (that came out last year) and I'm thinking, yeah but maybe the camera will, but the camera operator is still the same guy. So he's gonna get exactly the same pictures as he got with the xx2.

But life goes on, and people still want the newest stuff.

Yes you are very correct about value of out dated Camera equipment except lenses usually. I bought 2 Nikon D5's about 3 years ago for 6500 each and now at B&H you can buy a brand new one for 5500.00 . I have a BNIB Canon original 1DS never opened I bought at B&H about 10 years ago and who knows what its worth. I do know Lenses hold or go up in value as example are my 2 leica Noctilux Lenses as both have gone up about 2000.00 each recently...

I hate to say it but camera equipment has a soft spot for me..! :)

I was going to ask you not to encourage him, but i was too late.

So, does it work in landscape and portrait mode?

I am in the hunt to snag me one of those new D6's that will start shipping this weekend and if anyone see's one available i sure would not mind a heads up..!

Also the new Nikon 120-300 f/2.8 zoom would compliment this body nicely..:)

What would you say were the advantages of the D6 over the D5?
I hope you're not going to just say, "I don't care, it's NEWER, with a BIGGER NUMBER"!

Good man - it's fun to check out this gear, esp while still stuck in lockdown
My brother worked for Leica many years ago, and my father was a talented photographer (semi-pro for a while), so this thread caught my eye in particular.

FAR FAR from any type of picture snapper for sure but do have some pretty serious pieces of LEICA Equipment.. No talent here what so ever but do get a big thrill out of owning some serious cameras and glass.. I also like Canon, and hasselblad too..

So, it would appear you're not aware of any advantages. You just want to buy it "because it's there"?
Fair enough.
Good luck to you, and, more power to your elbow.

Are you a very successful bank robber?

I have an old Nikon D600, and I probably only use 10% of its capabilities. I read through the manual to learn a new trick, but if I’m not utilizing the feature regularly, I forget how to do it.

The D600 is a great camera. Have you read Ken Rockwell's review?
If you haven't, have a look. It just might inspire you to dust it off and
have some fun with it.

I can lay the blame at Ken Rockwells feet for getting me into a Nikon D5500 a few years ago.

This was my second Nikon...the first was a D5000 back in about 2011.

I must have snapped several thousands pics on that camera...the tilt screen was fantastic at concerts, car shows, etc.

Oh, I use it almost every day. I have two good lenses and enjoy shooting the wildlife around the house. I am frequently amazed, however, when I compare a photo from my 19 element lens and one from my Samsung phone camera with the tiny glass chip lens. How can cell phone cameras be this good?

A guy over in the Philippines made these amazing photos with a cell phone camera - these were taken several years ago.

Yes, you're right, it's astonishing, especially with the very latest kit having the adjustable defocus capability.
Some, predict the death of the 'camera', in the same way, 'some here' predict the demise of the mechanical timepiece.
We'll see, time will tell I supose.
(See what I did, there?)

The last professional camera I bought was in 1967.

Rather than buy newer, later, bigger, better tech - I invested in learning, shooting, process, developing, printing and experience.

I don’t disregard the excellent images today’s digital image processors provide. Just never went in that direction.
