I had a couple of kidney stones that would not pass, lord have mercy it was the most painful experience I have ever felt in my life. Felt like a samurai slashed my lower back open while an NFL kicker kicked me in the groin repeatedly without ever stopping. I would not wish it upon my worst enemy.

I wound up going to the hospital, went to surgery, got knocked out and the Urologist slipped a micro thin wire with a laser and a camera up my wanker and blasted the stones to dust. It was painless and done in one hour. If you have kidney stones, there is no need to suffer, just get to a hospital, ask for the Urologist and get it taken care of.

Thought about it.

Don’t want to take OR space while covid around. Plus, I have beer here.

Same procedure only I think they retrieved them instead of blasting.

You need to listen to a lot of Urethra Franklin music to ease the pain.

Scary part for me was waking up in recovery after surgery. There was an awful lot of equipment and monitors in the room. I rather freaked out thinking I was in the Sick Bay of the USS Enterprise. Really, it was quite off-putting. I was out for a couple of hours. At least the pain was gone though. Then I had to go back to have the stent removed a week later.

At least I didn't need to buy any Willa Catheter novels.

my last included a lithotripsy. unfortunately it didn't work super awesome. i was rather scared i'd be in need of a stint. luckily, 3 weeks post-op, the major stone passed. one of the happiest days of my life.

My god. This is more info than simply allowing it to ‘pass’.

This whole kidney stone thing should have a pandemic warning to it.

Here's one of mine. That little pointed part just killed me. If you have any muscle relaxants around give them a try.

Then, they broke up and all I felt in the passing was a slight burning (and not a cutting) as I urinated.
That is pretty much the norm, that most of the pain is with the stone exiting the kidney and entering the ureter. But man, if you get a large stone down to where you are trying to piss it out, Yikes!

Sometimes the stones make it impossible to break up, especially if they get stuck somewhere between the kidney and pissing it out. They will go in a cut those out but that stent thing may not have been available when I had the Lithotripsy, which was in 2000-2001s.
But Lithotripsy is the key if you have a mass still in the Kidney, like I had.

Post lithotripsy, mine was slowly, slowly moving through the last part of my ureter. Every time I peed it was a razor blade. The back pain early on I could manage, assuming I had Tylenol 3 handy. That razor, though. There was no way around that. Even uristat didn’t help.

Had manny stones. Passed most. One I had lithotripsy. The other one they went up the tally wanker and yanked it out like they were starting a lawn mower! Living hell. The stent was no picnic either.

Maybe to add to this thread.

What are you guys doing now as a precaution to not get any more stones.

I realize it's a "some people get them, some don't" thing, but what are people doing as a precaution.

The only lifestyle change I made is I drink a bit more water ( I always drank quite a bit) AND I add a tablespoon of pure lemon juice to my initial 16 oz of water in the morning.

Lemon or lime water. Apparently it helps reduce some enzyme and mineral buildup. But a LOT of it.

So, ya, I’m back on Corona and tequila!!!

Probably to some extent. Fact of the matter is, some people just make them and some people don't.

Diet can be a reason. Not drinking enough water can be. I never had them before last year.

I had two removed last year (at one time), and now I drink lemon juice in a glass of water every morning. I always drink around 80 oz of water anyways. We'll see.
