Icon11 How long will I wait?

Hi all, so a week ago I had an appointment at the Rolex boutique in Glasgow. Registered for a Datejust 41 Slate Wimbledon.
Loved the experience.
Question I have is, how long do you think I will wait for availability? Or is there a chance one just simply won’t become available?
It’s without doubt my favourite configuration so I didn’t want to register for any other configuration.

Basically that if/when one becomes available I’d be contacted and have a short period of time to purchase it and if I wasn’t able to then it would be offered to others but no timescale or hint at possibility or time was given.

My stepson waited nearly a year for his Datejust. I think it's impossible to predict the timescale due to all the different variants.

Glad you had a great AD experience.

It's that word "if" which is hard to quantify timewise.

Waited a week for my 41 mint dial smooth bezel on jubilee bracelet. It depends on the configuration and the Wimbledon dial maybe harder to obtain than mine.

These how long will I wait questions are a crapshoot that nobody on a forum can answer with any certainty.

One dude just posted he waited 6 years for a BLNR. I’m going to say that’s worst case scenario.

Only the Rolex boutique @ Glasgow knows which allocation would be available.

Try to follow up with them every two or three months if you can. Be proactive but not annoying and just stay in touch with the salesperson.

Getting a DJ should be easier now and good luck.

Could be a week, could be a year.
No point in asking here as there are so many variables including AD location, AD size, individuals spend history etc.

As someone mentioned, check in every 2-3 months. Good luck

any amount beyond six months isn't worth the wait.

Hard to say but I think a couple of months.

Keep popping by to the AD and general chat etc - it reminds them!

Thank you for the informative replies, I was hoping that someone could shine a light on how it works. Seems to me to be a bizarre way of selling, what with there being so many configurations. For example, do the AD just accept whatever is sent to them from Rolex and then offer them out to whoever they see as an ideal owner, do they order/request the configurations that are registered for?
I am aware that asking how long I’d wait is dependent on many factors but a description of anyone’s own experience and wait time would have been great.

Thanks for those who replied with some hints and info. Much appreciated.

👍 I’m superstitious about buying pre-owned jewellery or watches.

I was only looking for the experience others have had and hopefully specifically with the Glasgow Boutique. Thanks for taking the time to reply though. 👍

Posting as a recent off the street buyer. Even within the DJ the waiting game can differ. I got a white fluted one in a few months. But, the others seemed like they would take longer. While smooth might be faster. It’s also my understanding that UK/EU is much different to USA. It’s a game, and the AD makes the rule and decides what they want to do. Other posters laugh at this, but it’s true. Unless you want a precious metal Rolex, newbies aren’t in control.
