thanks, that article refers specifically to the 1030 and the Submariner, but I would like to know where it was originally used and what year, I believe it was already in use prior to its introduction in the Submariner.

Quite correct the Cal 1030 dates from around 1949/50 it was used in watches like the OP and Explorer.
