Journe Chronometre Optimum vs Resonance RTA

Hey everyone - I’m struggling with deciding between these two watches. The resonance I own already but it’s quite the pain to wind each time I wake it up. I’m considering a deal which I get an Optimum as part of it.

Anyone have any experience with the Optimum? It appears to be the technically superior watch and love that Journe designed it basically for himself. That speaks to me.

I would keep the Resonance and try to save up or have a different watch to trade for the CO. It would be awesome to have both the Resonance and the CO as part of your collection. Just my 2 cents.

Get the timepiece that you prefer. I prefer both :)

The CO is my personal favorite FPJ, but I don't think I could let a Resonance go to get it. I know that doesn't make sense. lol

If i can only choose only one, i would pick the resonance. As i would be able to enjoy its raison d’etre here and now.

For the co, it would take maybe 100 or 200 years to realize the magnificent vision that Mr Journe had in mind.

Both are beautiful and since OP you have lots of journes in your collection anyway, best to have both.

The resonance just speaks more to me aesthetically. While the CO is an incredible piece, the balance of the resonance is my preference (not to mention the concept is pretty sweet too).

You have the 2019 Resonance with the asymmetrical 24hr/12hr dials, is that the one? If so that would be one Resonance (and there are others) that I would let go in favour of an Optimum.

But, I think we still need to know which Optimum you are being shown. And what else is involved in this deal?

That’s the one I have - 2019 RTA. It wouldn’t be a straight trade so cash would come along with it. I’m targeting the platinum 40mm Optimum as part of the deal though.

RTA I think is a keeper. I agree with a lot of folks on here that both could have a spot in the collection. Maybe I use the proceeds from selling the Grönefeld to the Optimum. Or buy another box to expand the collection further.

I was so going for a CO last year, wasn't a big fan of Resonance as the crown at 12 O'clock really put me off. Unfortunately, I don't get access to FPJ Boutique in my city, only a local AD with very limited stock.

New Resonance really speaks to me, but just bad timing eg I can't travel overseas to pick it up at this moment.

Between CO and new Resonance, yes I would go a bit extra to get the Resonance.
CO and old Resonance, I will try to hunt down a black label CO. I think it looks great on Black dial.

When I spoke to my AD, I was under the impression that yes CO is a bit difficult to move as being "time-only" at such price point. So I presume it's always easier to pick up a CO (as compared to Resonance) at a later time?

+1. That Resonance is a keeper! Like others, I would acquire an OP to add. Heck, why not a commissioned OP like that dude Shani, IG: Shani.watch. I heard you need $200K in AD purchases and an application approved by FPJ himself. Life goals right there. That would be so exciting.

I know the resonance has been getting a lot of the hype recently (well-deserved), but personally i think if I was choosing one or the other, price and size aside, I would choose the CO as I find the complication more interesting and the dial more aesthetically pleasing. Practically speaking, having the same time displayed twice doesn’t add anything (or additional visa v the CO) useful outside of enjoyment. Just my 2 cents and personal opinion . They are both fantastic watches I would love to one day own . For now, still enjoying my CB and 38mm octa lune.

Update:

I decided to go after the chronometre trilogy (as coached by the boutique). The Resonance, Optimum, and CS. So I am taking some of y’all’s advice and keeping the resonance AND getting the optimum.

I bought a new optimum and is being delivered in person this upcoming Thursday. Now I’m targeting a special CS for delivery later this year.

I’ll post pictures soon. Thanks for the advice!

Good job Chase. I had been thinking about this more and finally accepted I needed an Optimum. And in an uber rare color. Just put in the deposit. Everyone will have to wait until January next year for the incoming. I'm excited.

CO is my absolute favorite Journe.

Congrats Chase. Amazing you get both + add a Black label to your collection. That’s pretty remarkable. Please post some wrist shots.

Cool. I was only aware of the CO being available in the regular color and the black label. What other colors does the CO come in?

RTA is the reference name for the transitional Resonance that came out before the new RQ.

The RTA is the one with the 24 hr dial instead of the 24 hr parking meter dial (that was fairly unpopular).

Thanks man!

I'm sorry but what is RQ? R for Remontoirs? What is Q? I'm genuinely interested in all these terminologies and I'm new to FPJ. Appreciate your patience.

How does the market perceives the new RQ?
