I would speculate that the mark I dial will be more sought after in years to come given that (1) it was the first and (2) the markings are less typical of other rolex models.

Trading value
Very good info Bo - ditto on the sticky.
In the world of Rolex trading down the road, what wins? Demand (more people want it) or Supply (not necessarily volume-related but more "Mark 1" or quirky rakish font or fat font? 1) Does that mean that the Mark 2 would be worth more as more people would go after them in years to come (with Mark 1 having the strange coronet and Mark 3 having the strange uneven spacing for the "=" sign)? 2) Or would Mark 1 or 3 be worth more as people think it's quirky and therefore a must-have? 3) Alternatively, no one cares and it's just WIS-types like me being OCD yet again? Many thanks! |

Mk ii
A little confused here.. looks like mine is a MK II dial (Especially the Es) but the spacing between the letters seems more like a MK I
Any ideas? |

My SD has Mk 1 but if you look at the = mark it doesn't belong to Mk 1, so what is my SD? Can someone tell me.

Ive owned both Mark 1 and Mark 3 and I kinda prefer the Mark 3 as it is not so cluttered. But in reality for me none of the differences on any of the dials is enough to care.

I'm not versed enough on the subject to answer your question. I just wanted to welcome you to the forum.

I've never been a fan of the coronet on the Mk I dial. It probably prevented me from buying the model on more than one occasion.

How did no one mention that the thickness of the rim of the markers on those two mk3's is totally different?

What I mean is
OP's mark 3 dial... http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/...g/11524353.jpg Another one for sale online https://www.jaztime.com/media/catalo...mg_7387_2_.jpg The second mark3 dial posted on this thread looks like the later to me and more like the deep blue markers. Much thicker rim to the lume dots. Maybe I am seeing things? A change or a different supplier to the Mark3? I'm ready to buy a new one and I like the Mark3 but not the thicker walled lume markers |

Great review, I prefer the MK I as it seems more modern to me similar to DeepBlue version

I have, and prefer, the MK II dial but the amount of information available - the depth and vastness of Rolex knowledge around here can drive one to drink!

I love the MK III dial because that is the dial that came with my DSSD. Pretty crazy to see these differences detailed though. Hopefully, I don't get the MK I itch...

In general, I think there's too much writing on Rolex dials. Oh well. But does serve to keep the dial from looking too empty. The D-Blue has some elements from MK I, such as the "S" in "Deepsea" and "Sea-Dweller" and from the MK II such as the coronet. Personally, I prefer the MK I "S", and am glad it's used on the D-Blue. Plus, I like the "Deepsea" on top of "Sea-Dweller". Of note, I used to have a black DSSD with the MK II dial, which I thought looked fine overall though there was a little too much space on either side of the "=". The asymmetry of the text around the "=" on the MK III dial would bug me. |
