Something Seems Off

Good morning everyone,
This is my first post on these forums, however I have read a lot and I thank you for all of your help.

I'm looking to purchase my first Sub and this one came up here locally.

I will be meeting them at my local jeweler to authenticate, but I wanted to get your feedback first. The Bezel on this watch seems off to me. All of the other Subs that I have looked at have an engraved bezel that you can feel. Does this being a two tone change that? Please see picture.

Also, if you could give me your thoughts on this watch. The band looks good with normal wear. I'm more concerned with the face.

Thank you in advance for your help.

WOW.....that one takes the cake. Can't be serious, and if so you might reconsider spending Rolex money on an item you have reservations about.

Older five digit models may or may not have the engraved rehaut. Just depends on the year. But that watch my friend looks fake, at least the bezel insert anyways.

Whole bezel is off including insert. Swiss dial should be A series model 1999-2000

I am far from an expert, but the bezel appears to be fake, look at the 4 in 40.

Red flags for me.

Save yourself the bother and have nothing further to do with that watch.

As a side point, did you ask your local jeweller if they would ‘authenticate’ for you or were you just going to turn up and ask?

Hi Kyle and welcome to the forums. I'm don't know too much about the reference but what strikes me instantly as odd is the wonky bezel font on the bezel insert and the fanciful "4" on the "40".

Wow, that is the worst insert I've ever seen.

This is not my first Rolex purchase, just my first Sub purchase.

There are just so many models out there, in addition to the willingness of the owner to meet at my jeweler, it gave pause. Hence why I posted to this forum. I trust the insight on here. I didn't know if the bezels ever came like this.

I am pretty bad at identifying fakes but that one is pretty bad and looks off.

The bezel is the most obvious bit but I’m sure others will chime in with more.

I would not touch this!!!!

I was going to have my jeweler take the watch apart to authenticate. I have worked with them for years and I trust them.

Thank you for all the feedback on this. I knew something was off, but I wanted your help first.

Thank you again and have a great weekend.

I thought so as well, I just haven't had the chance to see it in person yet.

Can’t put my finger on it, but something does look odd about that watch. Oh, I see it now — it’s fake.

Be careful having a "jeweler" authenticating any watch. Even the experts can be fooled on occasion.

If they don't even open it to check the movement -- that is a BAD sign of incompetence.

Better off buying from a Trusted Seller or an AD for your safety and peace of mind.

I agree with you on this. I use Southlake Jewelers here in Southlake, TX.

They always open the backs to check. So far I have been happy with their service. I agree, nobody is perfect.

Nevertheless, I just put a deposit on a GMT Master ii with Timepiece Gentlemen here in Dallas. Picking it up on Monday.

Insert is shocking bezel is really worn/heavy polished I would not dismiss it as a fake watch though, as looks very good otherwise.

Could you elaborate?
I could tell the Bezel was off but the other pictures of it looked legit. I'm seriously asking, what other things were way off?

Thank you again.
