Disagree. Love 47th St. Have gotten fair grey market prices buying and selling, and a great deal on a Diamond engagement ring a couple of years ago.

If you know what you’re doing and aren’t looking for a coddled customer service experience, there are deals to be had.

Love it or leave it. I’m in the former camp. Be prepared, decisive and prompt - you can get a fine deal. As has been said, some of the best dealers are on floors above ground level.

Love going there because there is no BS and I don't have to awkwardly make small talk with people.

For a person who lived in NY for years and still visits sometimes, I am happy that I moved to Florida like many many others

Sold a big program there for my mid western company.

Culture clash was obvious.

But... things happen and they pay their bills.

What more could you want in a business relationship?

I was in NYC about a month ago and went for the first time to 47th. Similar experience but I was with my fiancé.

I could tell she wasn't comfortable at all. Would definitely go back on my own next time - some amazing selection but you better be ready to have some interesting conversations.

I like the Diamond District, but you need to go there with a plan. I’ve never purchased a watch there, but I have done business multiple times with a specific diamond dealer. The guy I worked with was by appointment only. He put nothing out for display. Everything he carried he kept in small envelopes and brought to his countertop after a discussion of what you were looking for. Once you decided on a stone, he’d have you walk it across the street to a specific individual to discuss settings, etc.

If you just go in there with no direction, you can get in over your head.

Did you visit Vladdy's?

I was born in the NE but spent most of my life in the SE and have (so I am told) a southern accent, and I've pretty-much adapted to the laid-back Southern Style, but I enjoyed my time in NYC 47th st. As noted on page 1, you can throw back the attitude at them and no one gets offended.

I have been accused (by friends here) of being a bit blunt myself...

It also helps if you are not adverse to haggling.
