I love them, esp now that they are discontinued and provides a more unique look that Subs of the past and present.

I am in the process of selling my 116610 though. The lugs don't bother me, but strangely I prefer the ceramic Subs without a date. Totally opposite my feelings about the 5 digit. I think the 5 digits with their smaller indices needed a date/cyclops to fill out the dial a bit, that looked better to me.

With the advent of the maxi dial, the hands/indices are bold and fill the dial such that the no-date version just looks really amazing and balanced.

OTOH I'm not a huge fan of no-date watches from a functionality standpoint, so still thinking of whether I want to pick up a 114060 sometime in the future.

I absolutely love my two 11 series Subs (116610LN and 116613LB). I could have chosen the 12 series as they were already released when I picked my up my two 11 series. I looked for mint 11 series to add to my collection. I love the gold text on my 116613LB! I also love the classic 40 mm size which was the standard until the 12 series. The proportions work for me and don't bother me. If I were going to add another Submariner (or two) to my collection it would be another 11 series and specifically the 116619LB or 116610LV as I love the vibrant dials to match the bezels. The new 12 series WG sub doesn't work for me with the black dial. I could however do the 12 series LV if I had too.

Most people haven't got a clue when it comes to watches, I'm sorry. We're TRF, the crème of the crème experts, aren't we? We tell Rolex what looks good and what doesn't.

Only kidding, kind of.

I personally love the Supercase as it gives the watch a presence while ostensibly retaining the classic 40mm diameter. The 20mm bracelet is the perfect width as it's exactly half the case size (this is always a "golden dimension" IMO), and the clasp is beautifully proportioned - not too wide. I also find it superbly comfortable - it's got no downsides IMO.

The 11 series also represented a number of firsts for the Sub line - ceramic bezels, solid bracelet links, milled clasps, etc. It look the workhorse (and I'm afraid to say, outdated) 5 digit and propelled it into the 21st century.

Add to that the 3135 movement, which I personally think is the pinnacle of performance, robustness and serviceability, and the 11 series is the greatest Sub ever.

(I know I'm going to be in the minority here as lots of people had an issue with the Supercase, but I'm a proud 11 series advocate! )
Eleven.

Build quality was much improved (how did Rolex keep selling that tin-can clasp for so long?!) but the design was a step back. If not two steps back.

The lugs were always too fat and the cohesion of case to bracelet wasn't there. I agree with the poster who said it goes down in the same bucket as the DJII/DDII watches. You won't see Rolex make that mistake again.

It’s the ugly stepchild in the sub line for me. I’m sure some people enjoy it though.

Diver 8 said it perfectly. I can only add that I also believe the bold supercase dimensions gave it back an identity in a sea of imitators!!!

I really disagree. Too much love for the 11 even if a small noisy few think otherwise.

They had no issue selling every single one they made.

Maybe because "Rolex" on the dial was the primary desirable feature? Or the green bezel of the LV? The latter is what attracted me but the bracelet and clasp were a joke. I passed.

It was impossible for me to look past the build quality of the 1 series. The 11 series was so well built and thoughtfully finished (Glidelock, lack of ugly micro adjustment holes, ceramic bezel) that the lug width didn't matter at all to me. I didn't notice it.

My dad had an 11 series sub, which he gave to my brother recently. It's a great watch indeed. When he first got it, the wider lugs weren't my preference, and I seemed to be partial to the five digit reference cases. Having said that the watch wears very nice, even on my smaller wrist.
