Opinions on 5905P??

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I'm thinking about a 5905P. Most of my collection includes Rolex and PP sport watches. I haven't been able to find the "right" PP dress watch. One that speaks to me, without bankrupting me!

What are your opinions??

I have the 5905p-001 (blue dial). The dial shade is beautiful, particularly in the sun. AC layout and chrono are both nice as is movement finishing. Wears a bit small for 42mm because of concave bezel and smallish busy dial. Also a bit thick. Not sure this counts as a dress watch though I do wear mine from time to time with a suit.

It is great watch! I have a SS version that I wear on a strap - love it.

The reason I picked SS over PT was the weight - platinum version is rather heavy and bothers my CTS.

I think yours is a 5960, although they look similar and are both A/C chronos.

A terrific A/C chrono and I like the simpler one hour chronograph counter. It's for a larger wrist.

Oops! Stand corrected.
In any case, 5905 has been derived from 5960 if you believe https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/th...philippe-5905p

If you were to get 30% off of list price and wanted to sell a week later you would still lose money. It is overpriced IMO. I would pass. For 55-60k pick up a 5070R or G. At the current moment most watches on strap are in the crapper except the 5212A

Is OP asking about the watch itself or the value of the watch?

Asking from more of an opinion of the watch itself. I have plenty of watches that have appreciated substantially. Unless you're flipping, I think we need to stop chasing models that are en vogue, and buying what we like. I tend to gravitate to sport models, so I'm trying to segway into the PP dress watch segment.
I guess I'm trying to decide between a 5070R or G and 5905P. They are close in price on the secondary market.

I actually had the 5960 in Black, but the bracket was to "blingy" for me. I wanted to put a strap on it, but everyone (including my AD) said it was impossible. LOVE the look of the white dial on a strap. Looks great!

Based on your tastes as a “transition” piece towards being more dressy, how about a 5712G/R? (If you don’t already have it.)

You’d still take a hit on resale most likely, but not as bad as the pure dress pieces.

If you like a large thick watch itís very nice. The pushers arenít exactly buttery smooth but as opposed to the 5070 you get the AC complication.

It's a sporty piece no doubt, but I think it wears well with suits too.

I looked at the entire collection, apart from GC, when I was choosing this one. It has so many elements which are pure Patek, imo. It could be a tad thinner.

Opinions on 5905P??

It is a lovely piece , 2 nice complications
-annual calendar & chronograph- , plus the platinum case is wonderful, it wears casual & with a suit , you will love it .
My advise is to add a deployant clasp

The 5905 is a very nice piece but I find it far too big in terms of diameter and thickness for wearing it with a suit. For a dress watch I want something more understated and smaller, ideally 38mm and 10mm thick or less rather than the 42mm and 14+mm of the 5905. Maybe I am just getting old...
