Patek 5235 Regulator Values
I am look to buy Patek 5235R Regulator in rose gold. I don’t care about resale value because I never plan to sell, but I also want to buy for best deal possible. Right now the 5235G in white gold average price is 30-33k but average 5235R rose gold price is 42-45k. Long term I don’t think 5235R will stay so expensive and the G version which has been on the market longer and was first version of 5235 release by Patek is good indication of where 5235R value will go. G has been on the market much longer than R and is good indicator of where overall 5235 R value will soften to. I just don’t want to buy 5235R now if the value will drop in 6-12 months down low to mid 30s and I can save $10k. What do you guys think and please don’t give the typical “if you like it just buy it” response....I like all Patek and if I bought all Patek that I like I’d have no money! So just trying to determine if 5235R at 42k is a good buy right now or if it will come down in value soon.

It’s almost impossible to predict. Maybe they make very few R’s and then years from now they sell at premium to G. Buy and enjoy! Great watch.

R is surely bad buy, it will follow the G's path, downwards. but G is also much more beautiful than R, IMHO.

I agree the R will follow the G’s path price wise which is why I think waiting is the smart thing to do. Does anyone know the production numbers of the 5235 G and R? |

I really like these watches, quite different. Prefer the R as well. Such a cool piece. As for values who knows. Buy it and enjoy!

People ask about current market price vs future market price all the time and the answer is always "no one knows for sure".
Historically the 5235G was in high demand during the first few years and very difficult to get, due to low productions numbers. Then around early 2017, production numbers went up and they became readily available and demand went down. Psychologically people tend to want what they can't have and it gives them extra bragging rights if you have one. The same cycle of high demand and low production initially followed by ramped up production and lower demand happens to a lot of watches. I would suspect it will happen to the 5235R as well. |

I find the R very pretty. The G is just a little colder. Both are likely to erode lower in price. Particularly in the current economic climate. Hopefully they'll be better 2nd hand buy in a year or two.

The Regulator piece will not attract high resale value until probably decades later. The unique design and many first in innovations will make this piece collectors' item when it hits vintage period. That's my prediction.

I have the 5235G, I really like it. The R is perfectly accented with rose gold surrounding the sub-dials, but.... the R is too expensive right now I think.

I remember speaking with Tim Mosso at a watch event some time ago and he said the movement inside the 5235 is a marvel to look at and the watch was one of his favorite Patek watches.
I have owned the 5235G for 5+ years now and it really is a special watch and a keeper for me. I try not to focus on whether a watch is a hot item or not. You love the watch for what it is and not because you own one and others can't get one and so the price is going up because of the skewed supply and demand. |

It's such a cool piece...just wish it came with a deployant but that's the only issue I find with it. I love the dial, the uniqueness, the coloring...it's awesome.

Love this piece, especially the G. Gold, regulator, AC, for roughly the MSRP of a steel nautilus? Yes, please.

What is the MSRP in Singapore for 5235R? I am still looking at between 5235r vs 5524G.

I have had my 5235 G for a year and a half. I wear it in regular rotation and love it. Not clear where prices will be in short or long term. It is definitely a different piece which I think needs to be worn to appreciate its beauty.

Question for owners: how quickly can you read the time and how long did it take to get used to it?

It does take some getting used to. Took about a week for me to get the knack.

The 5235R is SGD68k, a 5% discount was on offer last time I checked but I think more can be had. Really like the G, need to be comfortable with the idea of reading time with the regulator. Good deals in HK.

That sounds about right.. I think there isn’t any discount. Tourist can claim GST Return around 5-6%.

Do you have the R or the G? I’m in SGP so the GST refund isn’t for me :) but yes tourists can get that. HK has better deals on C24.

I went to one of the AD in Spore to enquire. 5 pct is maximum they offer. Won’t be great.

I like the R. My AD says he can get it for me. But no discounts. It’s selling new for $41K on C24 so why would anyone ever buy at retail if options are available for <mSRP?
