Speedmaster professional Hesalite discontinued??!

I decided to go with the Hesalite speedmaster! Will collect it tomorrow from my AD

during my hunt for one (good deal) at least two ADs told me that it’s getting discontinued soon!

I wonder if it’s another rumor, to get me to pull the trigger or have others heard the same rumor!!

Thoughts?

There are rumor's that the movement may change, the hesilite speedy will always be in their core collection.

Not a rumor. Production has stopped. Being replaced with a new 3861 with other "vintage nods" as the new Moonwatch now.

So the current iteration is going out of production to be replaced with an upgraded moonwatch. It's not being discontinued all together.

I can’t see the new one being NASA approved. Just my opinion

I wonder if that’s going to make the current model more or less desirable?

Should I pull the trigger now, or wait for the new movement/upgrade??

What are the "vintage nods" you are talking about?

The speculation is about price. While a new movement is a move forward for the brand, would be their words, if associated with a significant price increase I don't see it. Speculation on several YouTube channels moves the price up 20-30%. If you want the watch buy it now.

Hmmm, I didn't realize that the 3861 had undergone so many changes compared to the 1861. Stop seconds when the crown is pulled, increased power reserve, coaxial escapement (if you like that), Si14 balance spring, the list goes on. Aesthetically it's nicer too if you get a model with a sapphire case back, which would be particularly cool if they redid the combination with a hesalite crystal rather than the current sapphire sandwich.

I'll be keeping my current hesalite Speedy. But if I didn't own one yet, I'd be inclined to wait for the updated version to be released with pricing info.

My guess would be something like a DON ceramic bezel (or something along those lines)

good question was thinking the same, but they made a ton of these so I don't see them becoming impossible to get, maybe they will move closer to retail?

I'm interested to see if the thickness stays the same or gets thinner.

I was told the exact same in February by my local AD in the UK, she also told me to hold onto it as I was considering letting it go.

The way omega is going, expect it to have a ceramic bezel, sapphire (no hesalite), an upgraded bracelet and also the new 3861.

I wouldn’t expect much change out of £5.5k as omega keep hold of Rolex coat tails price wise, although I suspect the usual omega discounts would be there too.

So excited, I bought mine today from the AD but due to the lockdown will collect it on Monday!!
Rumor or not, the SA told me it’s one of the last to be made
Honestly discontinued or not, I absolutely love it!!

A fantastic choice. I picked mine up in February and I’m still over the moon with it (pun intended).

The hesalite doesn’t scratch as easy as people make out, but it will scuff if you catch it on something. I’m over that phase already. The first time you catch it is painful, but after that you don’t really think about it.

Tube of polywatch for a couple of dollars and it will look as good as new for ever

Couple weeks ago I picked one up. AD told me Omega was coming out with something different. Glad I got mine when I did. Wearing it on supplied strap. So comfortable.
Nice catch Doc.

If the new version will include a micro-adjustable bracelet, I'm in. But the selling point will be the 3861 movement.

I was told by a SA at Topper's yesterday that the current Speedmaster Pro Hesalite has indeed been discontinued and is being replaced by a new model. SA had no details of the new release though.

I wonder how the pricing on the new model will compare to the older model.

Why not just retro fit the current with with a micro adjustable clasp?

Much higher I think. With every new release Omega seems to be pitching higher.

Is it still possible to get discounts on the discontinued model from ADs or the boutiques?

There is no model that is discontinued at this point.

The only thing there is, are rumours.

Two thoughts on this:

1) The current Speedmaster Pro will be the last of the true "vintage style" Speedies. The rumored new model might have ceramic bezel whereas the current has aluminum. With other more modern updates the current models may be more desirable if you still want the old school look. (Same thing happened with aluminum bezeled Submariners when Rolex came out with the SubC)

2) A price increase is all but certain. The days of picking up a new Speedy for approx $4k will be long gone.

I'm not sure about the new standard speedy being ceramic and sapphire. That would also mean that the watch is no longer certified by NASA. That's a big step.

There's a 6% price increase coming this September, but here's where things get complicated; does that include the speedmaster too? When will the 3861 supersede the 1861?

How sure are you of the 6% price increase in September?

I ask only because I was planning on buying a hesalite speedy for my birthday in November

Thanks !

One issue with Speedy Pro current model is the timekeeping is pretty poor. The updated version with new movement will solve that problem.
