I love my AP Quantieme Perpetual Calendar which does not have a seconds hand. While I do generally prefer to set the time on my other watches precisely with the seconds hand at 12, it doesn't bother me on this reference because I am constantly in awe of its ability to "accurately measure time in decades." The engineering behind the reference is precisely why I collect watches, but I guess those who will only ever buy a watch with a seconds hand are buying watches for a completely different reason than I.

The seconds hand allows me to know that the watch is “alive.”

A PC would always be on a winder and therefore always alive.

For the same reason why divers watches need an "alive" indicator (usually a seconds hand), I need one too. It's not on a winder if it's on my wrist. Also, watches have died before for random reasons, thereby requiring service. How can you be sure without sitting there and watching the minute hand? :) |

One thing we agree on — divers need to signal life to keep you alive!

Mine does have a second hand. But it’s not a PP. i like the layout better. But am still pining for a 5327J. Even if it has no second hand. Maybe next year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
