Grand Cayman

How safe is the Grand Cayman right now. Wondering if I should park the Rolex in the safe at home.

Lots of money there, very safe, bring the Rolex! I went in late 2018 and drove around the whole island without a worry and while wearing a Rolex. It seems travel is still somewhat restricted there but should be enough tourists to feel safe in most areas. Was offered many PM models at the ADs there but this was 3yrs ago so inventory may not be as good now, worth checking out though as tourism is likely still down there compared to normal. Have fun!

It will be fine. Tourism is down due to some restrictions. I’ve been going there for years as my aunt and uncle live there. Check out Kirk Freeport in Georgetown for watches.

Why would you travel somewhere that is not safe?

It would be safer if you don't wear luxury watch, just leave it at home.

Enjoy your trip!

It’s actually been a whole week since I saw someone lecture another man on a forum. I’ll have to start there counter again.

Grand Cayman is the safest place in the Caribbean. As with any location with lots of tourists it is best to practice common sense.

To be fair, I've probably got a better chance of getting a new family than another watch from an AD?

TunaTuna has a valid point...and I doubt he was lecturing.

I laughed a little too hard at this. Sad but maybe true.

Grand Cayman is actually a great place to shop for Rolex and other luxury watches. Many boutiques and AD's in Georgetown.

It’s incredibly safe. I’ll be there later this month, sporting a watch and checking out the great shopping there.

Tough crowd. I am not too worried about my wife as she can take care of herself pretty good. I typically just wear an Apple watch when we travel overseas but always miss my SD43 when we go to a place with watersports. Sounds pretty safe and the SD does tend to fly under the radar a little. Hmm, decisions.

Maybe OP handle implies that but how do you know he has a wife and family? Maybe he’s divorced and/or going by himself?
He asked a fair question. I’ve been to the Caribbean more times than I care to count some islands are safer than others. But all in all you do not hear many tourists getting rolled for their Rolex.

I go there for work a lot, It’s very safe, never had an issue. don’t to to nightclubs and come out at 2am though that can be a bit rough. The Rolex AD has watches (Kirk freeport) but less now than a year ago. less and less 40mm pieces. They sell quite a few other brands. there are a lot of jewelry shops closed at the moment but Kirk Freeport is the biggest (on Rolex it’s US MSRP - no sales tax) and open there is 7% duty now on watches but it’s included. So deals to be had.

where are you planning on staying, PM me for tips.

Grand Cayman

First time I went to the Cayman Islands, I almost got killed.

I had no idea cars drive on the other side of the road. When crossing a street, I looked left, didn’t see a car, and started to cross the street. A guy in a car coming from the right had to slam on his brakes and swerve into another lane to avoid hitting me.

As far as wearing luxury watches go, Cayman Islands are much safer compared to other islands in the Caribbean.

GC is 100% safe! Always wear the Rolex there and my wife wears her Gold Patek 718R. With that said, I would not wonder down to the far side of West Bay after 10pm wearing any bling. Like every city on earth, there are some bad apples looking for opportunities.

Glad you asked, heading there soon also. Buddy is getting married at the Ritz Carlton. Assuming I'm safe there, lol, but curious as to safety everywhere else.

With the recent internet influenced popularity in watches, I wouldn’t bring one of my favorite insured watches on most vacation anymore. Why increase the risk? It's like wearing a thick roll of $100s around the wrist. Plus far too many news reports of robberies because of jewelry.

I stopped wearing most watches around US cities like Philadelphia, New York and Boston? Why? All the damn robberies and shootings. Why put my family at risk over a watch.
I'll now go with either an Apple Watch or Tudor 58.

Now I would feel better wearing a decent watch at a private resort (wouldn’t leave my wrist).

I am taking mine, but will consider having it on resort only vs. wearing it out in town. Anyone have any reports back on the Rolex AD there? Heading out this weekend for a week at the Seafire.
