41mm Submariner Date - $19,000...

I went grey and picked up a rolex submariner date after waiting about 2 years on a waitlist with Tourneau in NYC. I frequently check the market rate of these to see if I made a decent decision going grey.

The watch is now around 18-19k.

Glad I went grey when I did. The best part was having the freedom from constantly waiting for the AD to email or call you.

If you love the watch and can afford it, go grey folks, i promise you will be happy.

I had to resort to gray long ago.

My AD completely forgot about me. No hard feelings tho. Just the times we are in.

I’m very content dealing with gray dealers. Market value is market value.

I have bought several from David, but will be waiting for price normalization before I pick anything else up.

Am I the only one who thinks $19k is a lot of money for a Sub Date? Maybe cause I am just not wealthy enough ... LOL

No it's not worth that. I've owned it twice and let it go because it wasn't worth $10K-11K to me when there's so many good black diver options. Great watch all around though.

You are right.
19k = 10k (watch) + 9k (hype)
Advantage: the good 32xx caliber is for free.
Solution: change the brand?

So, those of you that feel it is not worth $19,000, Don't buy one. There are (quite a few) people in this world that think spending $1,900 for a watch, any watch, is ridiculous. I won't try and change their mind. Right now there are two options to most Rolex enthusiasts that want to make a purchase. One, is pay (way) over MSRP and buy one. The other, is wait and hope, that they are able to eventually buy one from an AD. Whichever choice you make, that is yours and I won't judge you for it. OP wanted one, and bought one, more power to him. How about congratulating him for obtaining a watch he wanted. No one asked if you thought it was worth what he paid, it doesn't matter if you do or not, it made sense to him and now he has a very nice watch. I congratulate you OP.

It's not an incoming.

What everyone seems to be forgetting is that it's not that Rolex's are worth so much more, it's just that your money is worth so much less. And yes, $19k is a stupid amount of money for a Submariner.

As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

Enjoy the Sub, it's the best all around watch on the market today. Even at a premium.

Crikey!

At the risk of being banned, I've been saying for years that $9K for a stainless steel mass-production watch is nuts, and $20K is even nuttier.

But hey, I drive a $165K car (when it was new) and I know that most people would think that's insane. However you choose to spend your money is your own business, right?

It sounds like the OP is happy, and these days especially, that's quite important.

The great thing about buying at an AD (if you can) is the walk back to your car after purchasing the 126610 at MSRP.

Because by the time you drive away, the watch has appreciated (currently) about 98%.

As far as "price normalization" goes...good luck with that and enjoy your Omega.

I bought my Sub from an AD for about $6000 about ten years ago. I walked in, asked if they had a Sub, traded a Panerai 005 for most of the cost, left with a Sub. That’s how it used to work.

I have to agree, 19K is way too much money for this watch. I would have a tough time justifying the purchase of a used watch which is not a rare out of production collectible, at such a markup.

The Submariner is a great watch. For many it’s not even worth 9k. I think it is. At 19K it’s a pass for me and many others.

A year from now it will be...

"Remember when those 126610's were under $20K - now look at them, you can't touch one for under $30K!"

"Yeah, I'm gonna wait for some - cough, cough - "price normalization."

"You enjoying that Seamaster, still?"

"Um - yeah, I think so."
