7118/1a vs 15450
Hi everyone,
Thinking about my next purchase, I am looking more and more at the 2 HH sport icons in their small version. (Small Wrist) I am talking about the 7118/1A from Patek and the 15450ST from Audemars. Regarding both watches, I would go for the dark grey or white dial. The RO was my first choice in the beginning, loved the straight lines everywhere on the case and the texture on the dial but time passing by, I find myself more and more attracted to the round curves of the Nautilius and their amazing dials. On the other hand, I feel like caliber 3120 from AP talks to me a bit more than the 324SC on the technical side (hacking second, instant date change, lower frequency) even though I find it amazing how the Patek caliber occupies all the room inside the Nautilius case. Thickness is extremely important to me with these watches and I must say I was amazed by the 7118 proportions on this side (8.6mm vs 9.8) Owning both is not an option at the time but will eventually be the long term solution... Does anyone, owning both pieces, feel like describing his experience about these two beautiful timepieces ? Thanks in advance and HAGWEE

Personally it would have to be the 15450. My wife had the 15451 and I would occasionally borrow it. Not sure I would wear a 7118 although in saying that i am also not sure I could afford one!

Personally I would go with the 15450. The style of the 7118’s bracelet and case are noticeably more feminine than the 5711. The 15450, on the other hand, is just a smaller 15400 and may be more suitable for you as a guy. Try both on to be sure and go with the one which feels and looks better to you.

15450 would be better, 7118 would be too small for most men wrist.
I have 15500OR and my sister have 15451ST (with diamonds bezel), but after awhile she said it was too big for her small wrist, so I take over and wear it sometime now.

Thx everyone for your inputs.
7118 does not seem to get many many fans amongst males.

I have 7118/rose love it. It’s not small at 38mm horizontally and Everyone that notices it doesn’t say woman’s watch? When I tried at AD several young guys saw me trying it and they told me it didn’t look feminine. (they all had rolex)
So try it on. It’s a gorgeous watch. BTW I have tried the SS one but love the weight of PM

Thanks for your input ! Appart from this male/female thing, how does this one feel ? Happy with the 324sc ? (Correct me if I’m wrong but you probably have this caliber on 2 other watches from your collection).

The 10 to 4 measurement of 7118 is 35mm, ie, the length and breadth will be even smaller because 35mm is the hypothenuse (longest side of a triangle).
I suggest you try it on because it will wear significantly smaller than a DJ36. |

Actually 7118R in Rose gold looks really good. If the waved line on the dial was straight, it would looks better for men. Smaller dial size can be more suitable for smaller wrist.

The 324sc movement is tried and tested. As long as you can live with the moderate power reserve and w/o hacking I don't see why you shouldn't get it. Early models had some teething problems with the date but that has long been resolved AFAIK. Mine ran slightly out of spec which is why I got it regulated at the end of the warranty period. Most people would have just left it. |

There is nothing wrong with the waves on dial. nothing feminine. it’s just different dial and like it not.
not an issue on size but I am biased. nothing wrong with caliber

As said bellow, it is 38mm large with the ears which really made me feel like a Datejust 36. On the other side 3800 felt small on my wrist, was it because of the diameter, was it because of the dark blue dial, was it because of the thickness ? Can’t tell but felt “too small” where the 7118 felt “classic small”

In the beginning it was slightly pushing me away but then I stopped comparing it to it’s big brother and it actually felt right in its own way. Thanks everyone for the inputs !

My aquanaut feels small and same with my steel Daytona. However I feel very comfortable with it as I feel with my 1970’s classic Cartier Tank If you like it on you that’s all it counts. Nothing and now else. I share from experience with a larger size collection in general ( not counting the vintage Cartier’s I own) Best

I think if it sings to you, go for it, especially if you can get it from the boutique.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the size of 7118. That's just the nature of a person's wrist size.
However, I'm personally not a fan of the dial layout. It's a bit too round and curvy with the hour markers and hands. |

To me, the 7118 dial looks a bit feminine (though by no means unwearable for a man). Size totally fine, though. AP on the other hand is as neutral as they come in this regard. I might hesitate on the PP for that reason, but would gladly strap on the AP. And I’m not one to put much stock in “intended” gender- currently listing after a new 34mm OP…
