10K Max to spend (used)... Must be a keeper, what do you buy.

OK
Finacee is now on my back about what to buy me for a wedding present.
She knows I wont wear a necklace or anything like that so she has decided
a watch.... This must be a keeper (she bought me my Rolex Exp II for an
engagement gift) She told me to pick a few watches I like, send her some pics
and she will decide which... Of course I will be the one to buy it as she knows
I will flip if she goes to a dealer and pays full price or even buys new for that matter
hahaha.

She said no Rolex as I already have enough and it wont be a special one in this price range (her words not mine)

OK
My Wedding ring is an AP Royal Oak Wedding band

So I want something midline between sports and casual dress.
Things I have been considering:

Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono, Dual Time or even the basic Date version WR to 15 BAR (150 Meters if I recall?)

AP Royal Oak Dual Time or Chrono. I do not care for the plain date version, also a little let down... The RO is only WR to 50 Meters. Too bad as that would look nice with my wedding ring but seriously would you jump in a pool with a watch only WR to 50 Meters?

Hublot Big Bang. I do want one but I do not know if it would be a keeper long term so I do not think it qualifies here.

IWC Vintage Pilot. Not really dressy and again no screw down crown.

Panerai PAM 279. I like it! Still would like something a bit dressier but it has potential as well as the VC and AP.

Patek. Perhaps a used Aquanaut?

Any other ideas of suggestions?

Less than 10K is good as well!

Again it has to be something somewhat timeless so no fad pieces like the B&R, Graham or other huge watches.

okay I will take a stab here... Since you have mentioned a VC Overseas, how about the titanium version on strap? IMO that is between classy and sporty. I think it is a very handsome piece. Either the basic Auto or the chrono version.

Sorry not too sure about the US used price on that one.

a Seiko Monster???
I jest I jest.
Are there any Panerais you may be interested in that would fit the criteria?
Maybe Corum? There is a cool Artisan collection.
Maybe you aren't into those though.
I don't know, ahhhhh I love Rolex!

Why pre-owned? Go close-out!

Go with the new PAM 328. I love the look of the 1950 in a more contemporary looking model.

Close out or pre owned is good with me.

Fifty Fathoms is not timeless, most people who have had them end up flipping them.
I have tried them on with the intention of buying it but everytime I end up walking away.

VC is a serious contendor but the Ti and SS version does not do it for me... Not a fan of the leather strap.

Vintage Pilot may be the ticket, I just hate how it does not have a screw down crown and I could not jump in a pool with it on.

I'd go for either a Panerai (yes I know it's big but I don't believe it's a fad watch) or a used Patek dress watch at that amount. The aquanaut is nice but the fact that it doesn't hack (!) rules it out. Could you run to a Royal oak Offshore?

I'm just not keen on the VC Overseas enough to lay out that much. It somehow doesn't look special enough to me.

You said no Rolex but would you not consider a vintage Day Date? You could pick up a really nice 18K President for less than $10k. I find I wear my vintage DJ far more than any of my other watches.

I'd consider a full-on dress watch as a wedding gift. That way you'll always wear it if you're dressing up to take your wife out to dinner or any other special occasion.

I really like the idea of a VC Overseas, but not the chrono version, standard with the black face.

Eddie, of course I know that but it helps to see what others think and perhaps come up with other ideas...

As I said she said no Rolex (she loves Rolex) but I respect what shes saying as I am a flipper.

I am adding a ROO to my collection perhaps with all the activity i have going on the ROO is an option. I am sort of looking for something a bit dressier. I want to like the RO but the lack of WR really shocks me.... Would you swim with it???

I am sort of leaning towards a VC at the moment (if it was AP I think it would be the dual time)

Panerai I like the 279 quite a bit and it is as big as I can wear with my wrist but its just not a piece I feel confident considering timeless for myself.

So, non-Rolex, sporty but dressy, not too big or faddy, must be quality and worthy of a Wedding present.

What about a JLC Reverso.

In fact a lot of the JL line would meet your criteria.

All in-house, high end classy watches.

I was about to suggest this but then realised you had already mentioned it.

I think you could easily pull it off as dressy.

This Breguet is titanium and 100m water resistant.

Or perhaps something like the B01?

^ Good point...

Jeremy, if Blancpain (i.e. models other than the FF) does not float your boat, perhaps JLC would pique your interest - maybe something in the Master Compressor line?

actually, if your wedding band is an AP RO, then naturally an AP RO watch would be the matching choice.

As for the WR, 50m isnt bad, and imo it is plenty for taking swim to a swimming pool.

Like Eddie said, the decision if yours.... Or your future wife's....

Jeremy,

Then a Breguet Type XXI - a near perfect watch in my eyes.

Its a good looking piece, particularly with the crown guard-esk, curved bracelet.

Its back on today, after giving the 292 a rest, but it only sat out one rotation

I really do like the VC Overseas and the bracelet but I think I may hold the for a simple date version which I may buy myself down the line.

I think I am leaning heavily towards the AP RO Chrono or Dual Time at this point.

I know people who swim with their ROs. Have it pressure tested every year or so...should not be an issue.

Best of luck with your choice, Jeremy. And congratulations on your forthcoming wedding.
