Come to Pennsylvania. Was just picking up some 8 years in the desert and saw this. Then was waiting in line and there was a shopping cart full of loose bottles waiting to get stocked

Saturday afternoon, just about to start cooking. Got some music ready to go and the wine has been breathing for an hour or so.
This is an old 1998 Richmond Grove from the Barossa in South Australia.
A gift from a friend, it was never meant to be cellared this long. I have had a preliminary taste and the cork is totally sound, level not reduced, nice clear deep red colour, great nose and plenty of power on the palate but will soften a bit more before I start drinking it in about half an hour. Always interesting to see how a good (but not great) wine has fared over 20+ years. Let the fun begin.

Damn - I bet that 75 Chappellet was amazing. They are one of our favorite wineries.

They make great wine, and the pre-eighties bottles before huge extraction and tannin monsters were the thing are so much fun!!

It was an amazing wine. Wish it was decanted at least an hr but it opened up beautifully during the dinner. Dark fruits, plums and a balance of cocoa, spices, tobacco and oak with subtle acidity and minerals. Super lengthy and layered finish. Now I'm looking to pick up a few bottles and try them again in 2-3yrs.

Amazing, great find! Coincidentally, after someone on this thread recommended a wine retailer here in London I was able to find a bottle just in time for Thanksgiving. The sales associate told me they had plenty of it in their warehouse, so I will be going back for more. Interestingly, he said they have a nice allocation of California wines which are hard to get in the US and 90% of their stock ends up getting shipped to customers in the US!

We had a half bottle our first night in Provence and have been fans ever since!

(yes, I know Provence is different from Rhone -- just happens to be where we had Vieux Telegraphe for the first time)

Certainly not up to the level of some on display here but good enough for me, I will be enjoying these and more like them over the Christmas period. I got a good deal on 6 bottles of the Marimar Estate.

Some buying pints, some buying quarts....but if you buy half gallons you’re playing it smart.
Wine, wine, wine....pass that bottle to me.

It’s definitely a great wine! We’ve had a few over the last couple of months when we need a change. Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy the balance of the Cotes du Rhône blends!

Cheers!

The Rousseau was AMAZING!!! Still youthful and vibrant, has a lot of life ahead of it, I have a few more myself, gonna hold on to them.
