Celebrating my 5000th post with two Seiko/GS incomings

Thanks to the great help of you great friends, I managed to get my first two Seiko/GS watches.

Oh boy am I blown away by the great details and phenomenal quality of my new SBGA387. The dial design, the case work, the applied indices and the bracelet really blow my mind away! I haven’t seen such details on high end Patek

And my new work horse is the SKX009J1. Where I managed to get it brand new unworn, the Japanese version which I’m told it a little better made!

Some of you might have seen my recent posts asking about Seiko and seeking guidance which one I should go for and after a lot of great input I was lucky to land these two
Thank you all!!
Sorry for the poor quality pictures. Will try to post better ones later

Agreed. Most GS buyers are ex/current-PP customers. Either looking for a step up in quality or just something comparable that’s available to buy.

Congrats ! Head to strapcode or uncle Seiko if you want to add a bracelet or better rubber strap to the 009. I added a strapcode jubilee and really changes it up

I’ve been actually shopping for a different strap but seems like taking the current one off will be quite the task. Even though it’s not an expensive watch but I try to avoid scratches at all cost. Any ideas/tips on how to remove the 009 strap without scratching the lugs?

Congratulations. Just use a regular strap change tool like a Bergeon 6767. It's an easy change and skx lugs don't scratch easily like Rolex lugs do.

+1
Also, for quick changes you can pick up some straps with quick change spring bars (for example Barton bands). You can also pick up some quick release spring bars to use w/ NATOs. Otherwise , for rubber I really like the uncle Seiko bands . I’m hoping Tropic comes out w 22m size tropic straps b/c their 20mm ones are really nice.
Happy hunting!

Local AD told me that a lot of their Patek customers were looking into or buying GS as a daily alternative.

Congrats OP, you've picked up two modern classics there. Your Seiko journey is looking quite similar to mine. I nearly posted in your other thread but there was already enough good advice there.

You can't go wrong with most Seiko divers but now that you're underway, all that's left to say is keep an open mind re the stated specs. As you can see with the SKX, the specs do not always accurately indicate how Seikos will look and wear on the wrist - some wear bigger, a lot of wear smaller.

I wouldn't have even tried on an MM200 case before I picked up my kirazuri. 6 months later I have two of them taking over regular beater slots in the rotation. The MM200 specs say 44mm case but they wear like 41mm with a slew of modern upgrades over the SKX: sapphire, coin edge bezel, sleek case shape and polish, drilled lugs, lume upgrade plus an upgraded hacking movement 6R15. No nonsense straight out of the box, no need for mods.

My two year old has always loved feeling the watches. He prefers the coin edge and case lines on these MM200 cases and reaches for them instead of the Rolex, Omega, Zodiac etc. Works for me!

Anyway, my soldiers three:

It is amazing how my acquisitions skyrocketed since joining
It’s for sure a fun hobby, despite the stress of shortage at times.
I mostly enjoyed the knowledge and the friendliness of the members of this forum

Beautiful trio!! I feel that it takes a special appreciation that one “graduates to” to realize the beauty Seiko offers. And yes, you’re spot on about the specs! My SKX wears like a 40mm

Grats the 387 is an AMAZING watch. It checks all the boxes.

The only gripe is I wish the lug width was 20mm or 21mm versus the 19mm.

The complexity on that 387 dial is stunning - wear in good health!
