Changing Hands

Old age has affected my eyesight. The Gold Hands on my Champagne dial are becoming invisible to me.
Am thinking of having the hands on my Day Date replaced with luminous ones when next serviced.
Would genuine new Rolex parts be used, and my old hands returned to me?

I suspect it depends who does the service. RSC?

Specific hands go with each dial, an official Rolex place would not change them or return the old ones to you. You could get an independent to put generic ones on which would do the job exactly as you desire.

The Rolex Service Centers will not return the old parts. As an alternative, you can locate an independent watchmaker with access to genuine Rolex parts and they'll be more likely to return the old parts to you. The independent watchmaker will also probably be willing to swap the hands without performing a full service if the watch doesn't presently need one.

But really, I'm not sure that luminous hands will improve the legibility situation. There just isn't that much lume present on the dress watch hands and how will it help at all when it's not dark?

You might be better off having the dial swapped to something with more contrast, like black or white. Or trade up to the newer 41mm size.
