hey what is your guys opinion on the rolex turno-graph "thunderbird " older style.

I used to have it and then sold it , and I have hurt ever since so my question is anybody preffer the newer model with red second hand and black printing on bezel. Or how about the older one with gold bezel and markings in the same tone like the yach master .

So what do you guys think about it ?

Well, I must say that I'm partial to the "Older" model ToG. Looks great on the wrist and I love the blue dial .

Here's mine.

I believe someone met a Rolex exec recently (and posted on this board) who said those watches were one of the biggest mistakes Rolex ever made...IMHO, I agree; they just make no sense to me whatsoever. To each their own!!!

My first Rolex was the older style Thunderbird. I loved the styling, it had both a sport watch and dress look at the same time.

The new style Thunderbirds just aren't for me. I really don't care for the bezel.

Those Datejusts are absolutely stunning! I like the white face, red hand and date, oyster bracelet the best. If they would put shoulders on the winding crown, (like the sub, GMT and other sport models), and make one in a 40MM, I really think it would be one of those "Have to have" kind of watches for me.

Stupid Question, Does/Will Rolex ever make the new DJ in a 40MM?

Exactly my sentiments! I would buy one in an instant if they were 40 or 41 (like the DD2)! Crown guard not required on mine, but the size would win my $$

This limited edition MOP dial & factory diamond indexes belonging to Stuart here on TRF is the only one I've seen with a gold date window surround.

I am on the fence. I do think the red/black date wheel is cool. not sure why - just think it's cool.

I believe what the Rolex exec said was they shouldn't have marketed it as a DJ but as a sports or professional line. Trying to find thread now.

I would like one. I think it would be a great watch to have while timing steaks on the grill. At least, that's what my AD says he uses his for.

I sort of like the NEW styles but the name "Thunderbird" just reminds me too much of old Vegas....too much of a used car salesman with beer breath in Vegas on a hot day with greasy hair and a plaid sport jacket.

Will Rolex ever make a hybrid from a GMT II and Date Just????

I like the newer ones but for some reason the older model isn't sitting with me too well. Maybe I'm partial to the fluted bezel on the more recent ones.

It would be an awesome watch for me if it came with a stainless bezel.

The older one was nicer in my opinion. It is functional for people like me who use the bezel as a timing feature the fluted bezel TOG just does not look right. I would still prefer a Sub over a TOG or a DJ for that matter.

A larger TOG with crown guards, yeah they make something like that, its called the Yachtmaster, which is more of a Yachtmariner but thats a different story.
