Ruined by my Turtle

The turtle SRP777 is so good that it has ruined me, I don’t know if I can ever justify buying another watch. This is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but for $300 new the turtle is just sooo good.

They are amazing values and perform above their weight.

Great watch and I think we are fortunate to not have to justify the purchase of other watches as I could not. Since I really started educating myself about Seiko/Grand Seiko and moving through the ownership experience I can not be more impressed. The watches are just a lot of fun and typically of very good quality with minor quality control issues on the lower end. I spend as much time now looking and learning about Seiko than I do with Rolex. A few pictures of some of my Seiko's.

Yep just a great watch, just acquired mine last week.....not even sure I’ll take it off the rubber strap it came in as it’s super comfy. It really matches the the look of the watch too with the large buckle and keeper.

I agree with you100%. My wife and I talk about it daily, in fact. I have other watches at my disposal. But it's my favorite to wear. I have to leave to Ottawa today on business. I have my Exp2 on now. I think I'll wear it. But I might not. I'll miss the 777. In fact, mine is a not made in Japan one, I noticed a Seiko dealer in Ontario, where my wife and I have bought several nice Seikos from, has a made in Japan 777, I'm thinking of buying it. As crazy as that seems. Watches for me have come and gone, I have owned all the hard to get Rolex watches, some twice. But I will always have a 777 in my collection.

Get that made in Japan model. I bought two 777’s and recently sold one to a friend just to help him out. He doesn’t wear it often, maybe I’ll buy it back. But I’m also planing to buy more of them. I won’t pay more than $300.

Any thoughts on the gold version? I think it’s kinda cool, but at the same time I haven’t bought one because... why?...

I have tried the gold one on, I think it's fabulous, I just want a normal 777 though. In my opinion, best watch for the money out there.

Nice! I really enjoy these real Seiko tool watches so much that I only wear my GMT LN a few times a month, the rest of the Rolex are never worn for the past 2 years

This one gets pretty much daily wear...a souvenir of Nagasaki and birthday gift from the wife last year.

Couldn't agree more... I have been curious about a cushion case watch but I didn't want to spend big bucks on a Doxa or Panerai, so I decided to have a look at the Turtle at Macy's. I tried it on and I liked it way more than I thought I would. I didn't buy it because I just wasn't sure... but after a week of watching you tube vids and reading reviews I was back for a 2nd look, and with their black Friday discount, plus using my Macy's card for the discount, I couldn't resist. I got this thing for around $260!!

I've had it for not quite two weeks and it hasn't left my wrist yet (other than sleeping/showering). I also thought I may change out the stock strap to leather or NATO but this silicone rubber strap is so, so comfortable. I'm not into big watches (42mm was my max) but this thing just sits nicely and doesn't "wear" as big.

Perfect Summer watch.

UPDATE:

I just purchased my original SRP777 back from a friend I sold it to a few months ago. I’m really happy to have it back. I could use another dozen of these. I’m serious. My original is on the left. The one on the right I purchased as well and have been wearing a lot lately, it’s in much better shape than the one I just got back. I’m happy to have one I can beat up a bit more.

Man. You guys have me thinking. I’m not into “big” watches either, I’ve always viewed 42 as my absolute max, but I love the looks of these. I’ve been struggling to find a diver that is THE one to pair with my Explorer, very tempting to pick up one of these and see how I get on with it. I’m afraid I’ve caught the Seiko fever since I’ve also recently fallen for the SARB035.

They don't wear big at all. Crazy comfortable on a strap

There's always the mini Turtle as an option.

I have the same rule of nothing over 42mm...but I was merely curious about the cushion case and just tried one on, and it felt so right, not too big, I'm sure due to the short lug length. Just try one on if you are near a Macys or a Belk...they usually have them in stock, and if you can get them on sale, a bonus...plus you can inspect in person for the misaligned chapter ring... Mine is spot on and keeping good time too. I'm very pleased.

Thanks for the input guys! I’ve looked into the mini turtle before and with the caveat that I’ve not actually seen one in person it looks a little too small to me. I think L2L is under 45? Feel like that might look a little awkward on my approx 6.75” wrist.

I really like the look of the 773 as well with its subtle shade of blue.

The turtle on paper is a larger watch but the short lugs makes it smaller on wrist. It’s perfect for small and large wristed like myself
