As I'm sure you know, many people don't want to buy on eBay. However, similar watches are often selling for like prices through other avenues.

It's a high demand luxury item. And has been discussed before...something is "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it. There will be dozens of people right behind you willing to snap it up. I bet #2 on the list will be there in a flash.

I got a new SS GMT double lock clasp and bracelet in 1985, it was $120 from a AD.

..Maybe I am crazy about the date on the $35. bracelet purchase..About 1980, I thought, and perhaps I'm just nuts enough to buy the Daytona for $9200. My pathetic refusal would certainly be quickly forgotten by the stunned AD in the 30 seconds it would take him to make call number two..I'm kind of in agreement about the potential flipping profit..yes there would be a profit, but I'd be into the watch for around 10K after tax...I first thought around 2 or 3K upsell was possible, but now I'm not so sure..and a lot of trouble to get it done..Are there a lot of people giving the Grey marketeers 13 or 14k like their price tags require?..Anyway..I wanted the watch to keep not to sell, which is why I specified black dial only, and that's why the price bothers me so much.

Perhaps the new price will put some people who are already on the list off buying it and I will move up the line quicker
The price over here has gone from £4,420 up to about £4,800

I agree, especially in this crappy US economy. I know first hand where people have been getting the call recently from numerous ADs that they have not done much or any business with.
Come on ADs, call me :)

I think comparing a PP with a Rollie is like comparing a Fabrege egg to to that of a goose. Let's face facts: Rollie = upper middle class : Patek = very very wealthy MHO |

I will buy all I can at $9200 and sell them for $12,500 +. Hey..........all I need is 10 sales and I can get a WG Daytona with the profits. Anybody who turns down a SS Daytona at $9200 hates money.

And find a few "lost" relatives along the way!

A completely in-house column-wheel chronograph for under $8K was, frankly, a bit of a bargain. Only OMEGA's 33XX chronographs and Zenith's higher-end El Primero chronos could compete realistically in performance and are priced substantially lower than the Daytona.
