Turns out the real value in a watch is buying one that you really enjoy. Who would have thought?

Indeed Dan. Buy what you want and wear it. Everything else is hype (which is thankfully on the wane).

Good. I'm SOOOO tired of "watches as 'investments'" conversations. Let's talk watches as a passion.

It's funny still seeing these comments after the watch price talk was pissed off to this little Watch Out corner, to enable more passion talk in the General forum

If watches were available at ADs at retail, I guess there wouldn’t be much to talk about prices. Most people here are merely trying to get the updates on market values so they can decide if they should pull the trigger. Of course there will be some flippers lurking around. So I don’t find it bad to have such threads as they value add to TRF readers who are trying to buy a watch.

I don't consider watches investments. And this thread is not supposed to be about investments. It is meant to inform those of us who want a watch but cannot get one from an AD. For those in that camp, the question of where prices are heading is relevant when trying to time purchases on the secondary market or coming up with an offer.

Sorry, let me be clear - my post wasn't directed at you. It was a general statement about what's happened over the past several years.

Even amongst several of my watch nerd friends, when we're talking about watches and new releases, the nature of the market sometimes seeps into the conversation and I hate it.

I think the watch market is fascinating. Brand strategies, secondary market, even pricing. It's kinda nuts how we as a society consume, intentionally or not. I think there's actually a lot to be learned from all the recent happenings...

With you a 100% Wes. Nothing makes my leave a watch conversation sooner that the dreaded "investment" word. Did not used to be this way. But I guess it is what it is.
