Hi, I am a noob on this forum but have been searching and came upon this Rolex Forum. So perhaps I can get some advice...I have an opportunity to purchase one (PAM 049 white dial) for around $3200, but before I commit I was wondering what the consensus was of this model and is it worth it or should I hold off for something else. Any suggestions or advice is most appreciative!

Hi Marty and welcome

Like all 40mm PAMs, the '49 is great looking and too small. Unless you have very small wrists, stick with the 44mm models

I have small wrists, but I think the 40mm are too small for Panerai. The size is part of the signature. Try a 44mm before you pull the trigger. Whatever floats your boat though. Go with what makes you happy.

My watch collections vary in size from 36mm - 46mm, I think I meant to ask is that Model PAM 049 decent or is it not worth it. I am first and foremost a collector, so I want the watch to maintain some value if I decide to resale it. I hope I am making sense....

Since 40mm models are less popular, they're probably less collectible and don't hold value as well but I'm not an expert by any means so it's just my opinion. I bought my 310 second-hand and got it for what I think was a steal.

if that is the case, go with the more popular 44mm/45mm/47mm PAMs.

the 049 was nice, especially the bracelet, but you wont get much in return if you decide to sell it

Don't buy any in the hopes of making a return. Best bets for that are the Special Editions, but even then it's a gamble. Most likely to hold most value I would say to stick to the base 44mm such as 000, 005, 111, or 112. Best bang for the buck is to get one of those preowned. Goodluck!

From a dealer's standpoint, I'd advise to stay away from the 40mm Pams, as they're very hard to sell if you ever choose to. Naturally, there's a price for everything, but over $3k is too much, IMO, unless it is brand-new.

Sadly, the 40mm Luminors are not highly sought after.
The low price makes it tempting for me to buy a PAM 48 for my wife.
Unfortunately, it is a difficult watch to flip if she tires of it.
At $3200, I would expect a complete PAM 49 set from the J series or later.

I guess I'm the only one to disagree here. The PAM 49 is VERY sellable. Reason, every Paneristi wife wears one. My wife wants one. They are very popular with the ladies.

Thanks everybody for the input so far. I am not in it to resale it, but like in any collection, if I find a Grail Watch and have to sell some toy's to get some toy's, than I want a watch that is first and foremost 'resell-able' and holds it value.

Might want to look at a 111g. Looks like you like painted dials. G is painted and and has a larger brushed crown guard. There is one for sale at a really good price on tz and paneristi.com. I can't speak for the seller, but all his paperwork looks legit. I have a 111g myself btw.

183 H-L watches are all the same, the only different one is the G. It has a different decorated movement (still a 6497, just different decor) and the dial on the G is sligtly different order of the text on the dial. No biggie if you aren't a collector.

It is just personal preference. I love the 210 (a 183 without second hand), but I also love the 190 (basically a 183 with a JLC movment and gold hands). Think I would like the 190 more if it was a two hander like the 210. Oh well. There are just too many to like.
