Caution - "UPS Escrow Service" fraud scheme
All,
I received the email below from Chrono24 support that's worth sharing. Be warn From: Chrono24.com Support (support@chrono24.com) Sent: Fri 4/16/10 3:28 PM To: support@chrono24.com Dear Sir or Madam, thank you for using chrono24.com. We are happy that our users help us identify scammers in the international watch market. We would like to share this information with you to prevent future fraud. There is an currently active fraud scheme that you should know about: The scammers upload very high quality photos of watches. The watches are suspiciously cheap. If you contact them, they suggest using an escrow service to make the payment. They will then ask you for your address in order to start the transaction via an UPS escrow service. Then, you get an email that appears to come from UPS, which tells you to transfer the money to a bank account. This email looks authentic. There is even a working UPS tracking number in it. Please be aware: There is no UPS escrow service! UPS only offers cash on delivery. UPS will never ask you to transfer the money in advance to any bank account. Bank accounts belonging to "UPS representatives" are fake! Always pay attention to the email address, especially the part after the @ sign! Please be careful whenever you buy from a private seller. For more information, read our guidelines here: http://www.chrono24.com/en/info/escrow.htm?SETLANG=ENGB If there are any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Your Chrono24.com Support Team PS: We are always happy whenever our users report us fraud schemes. I sold a watch recently and this guy tried to get me to use Escrow... seemed shady too. I turned to the trusted members of this forum and all who replied told me to run... I did and eventually sold the watch. Turns out that he was trying to scam, I had received an e-mail from eBay about him.
