Come hell or high water, grab yourself a 16610....NOW!!

Hey guys,

A very strong word of good advice........

If you don't already have an SS Sub-date 16610 (as was evident from my recent thread on the same subject), grab yourself one......NOW!!! Before it's too late.

If Rolex is planning on an updated version - the 116610 - then by the time it's finally released and made available to the general public, the price on that baby is going to smash through the bloody roof!!

Get one.....NOW - new, preowned, any damn way.....and if you already have one, just hang on to it.

Trust me on this one, guys......you WON'T regret it!!

JJ

I belive your statement to be true JJ and God forbid they go PCL with a ugly Ceramic bezel like with the TT that are out now.. GMT looks great but on the SUB not so much. IMHO Why ruin the perfect watch =bluesy to what they are makeing in tt now.

I may buy a second one, as an investment and 'back-up' 16610, as this is my favorite !

Actually I think they did a better job with the ceramic Sub/Sd bezel than they did with the GMTc. The Sub still looks like a Sub, but the GMT could be a different line altogether.

Not in this economy.

I'm picking up a TT Submariner ceramic when they are given at discounts at ADs. Nobody in their right mind would jack up the price of products in a tanking economy--including Rolex. And with the updates on the ceramic subs, it's going to be a better watch.

by my estimation there are roughly 100,000,000,000 16610's out there, so if and when I want one I'll buy it used. Charging a premium for a used watch just because the next generation has gone up in price doesn't happen very quickly. If the new Sub gets the ceramic insert, new clasp and hefty new price tag, 16610's should still be affordable for a while JMHO.

Given the indisputable fact that people will want to adopt the new Sub early, they will sell off their old subs in near panic-like form.

Really, I wouldn't be surprised if V-series Subs regularly sell for $3500 around the introduction of the SS Sub ceramic. People that currently own the SS Sub will want that watch, and will likely dump the previous Sub to garner funds.

Some will for sure, lots of people (me included) were trying to sell their 16613, but with the new ones coming out the market was soft so I ended up haging on to mine. We'll see where that market goes in the next couple of years cause I'm keeping mine rather than giving it away.

Good advice. I've had most sports models including a 16800 but never owned a 16610. The latest thoughts seem to indicate that the 16610 won't be replaced this year but I still think it's a good idea to get one. Price new in the UK is £3740 at the moment so pre-owned is quite attractive.

The 16610 will always be the Rolex our generation.

Am I the only one out there that thinks that the hundreds of thousands of them produced will make a horrible investment. I mean, I can't go to the food store and not see 5 of them, they are everywhere. I agree that they are a perfect watch and why they change, Rolex will be destroying a fantastic, iconic tool watch, but I would never think of them as a investment, there is just way to many around for them to increase in value for many, many decades.

I agree with Marc. I speculate that the Sub is probably the most produced model in the professional line and its not a rare model to find at all. I see them all over the Classifieds section of this forum all the time. The prices will go up slightly but it shouldn't increase as high as the 16710 old style GMT with the 3186 movement. Now those are selling for a premium today.
