Lange 1815 Chrono Question
I have the opportunity to buy a Lange 1815 Chronograph, white dial and yellow gold with BP from a trusted dealer friend for $30k, do you guys think it's a good enough price to be a safe investment?

1815 Chrono isn't an investment. Buy it, wear it, and enjoy it since most ALS watches drop like a rock when purchased new.

Sounds like an awesome price that has taken most of the financial hit already, assuming it is in good shape..An ALS chrono is a grail for me so I say go for it

Also know that this wouldn't be very liquid, there aren't that many buyers for the 1815 Chrono and I guess even less for the YG. |

$30k isn’t bad for one of the most beautiful chronos. I would say you will not regret. The only hard time is ...you will not want to let it go in case you need cash. It is too beautiful in the fresh to let it go. No pictures I have seen so far on the Internet can capture the real beauty of the timepiece.

The other point worth making is that you could pick up a used first generation Dato in gold for just a few $k more. Pretty sure I saw one for sale very recently for about $33k.

I'm a bit biased as I own a 1st generation 1815 Chrono in wg. The price you're being quoted seems pretty reasonable to me. I would still factor in a service if there's no proof of one done in the last 5 years. Send it to Alkis in NYC and have him look after it. Factor in $1250 + any cosmetic work you want to have done.
I looked at the 1st generation Data over and over again. I liked it but in pt it always felt thick and top heavy. What that meant was I chose to have the same movement but in the shallower 1815 case without the date. But as in all these things you should try on both if you can. |

I also have the 1st generation in WG and much prefer the dimensions over the dato. It’s also quite a bit less dressy than the dato so much more wearable day to day.
I think 30k is a decent price for what is pretty much the best looking movement on the market under 6 figures. I can’t see you losing much more if you came to sell. I just had mine serviced by Lange at around 1100usd which I thought pretty reasonable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Well given that PT Dato (1st Gen) trade in the high 30's, 33k for a YG sounded low but not too low depending on the sellers motivation (and the seller, whom I don't know but see his listings often, sells a lot).
Correction noted. Let's add 3k and say for 36k the OP could likely find a YG 1st Gen Datograph. |

The back
Frankly both sides are wonderful but the view of the movement is magical.
