AP Vintage Thread

Lately I’ve been finding myself reading and learning more about AP vintage references. RO hype aside, I believe some of their pieces from the 80s-90s are just incredible and really interesting. Tbh, sometimes I wish they would start looking back at their past and perhaps re explore some of those lines.

Here are 3 of my vintage grail pieces:

1) AP Jules Audemars Ref 26356PT:

2) AP Perpetual Calendar Ref 5516:

3) A rare early 80s AP elliptical half skeleton:

Any other Vintage lovers here?

Always loved the vintage skeleton QP and I know I am in the minority but love the square RO.

I didn’t know that AP made such amazing skeleton pieces going that far back. Truly impressive.
And that square RO is dynamite too.

That 5516 is incredible. Love the 12 o clock and the explicit stating of which year it is, so completely unnecessary but its romantic on this piece, haha.

I so much wish AP would have tried to revive and relaunch the Jules Audemars line rather than launching the Code...

There was so much potential here. But it is true it would have felt a bit like a PP copy cat move.

Still... would have been awesome...

Expect a round watch (non-Code) to come still this year.

Wish I could, but that’s all I’ve been told. Only 3 months left so we’ll find out soon enough.

Hope it fares better than their remaster 01

Oh - I thought it was not so bad tbh when they released it.
But it's true it's gone with the wind and no one ever mentions it again. Don't think I have ever seen one in the wild or in a forum. Though have tried it at the boutique...

This is also a stunning piece - a rare yellow gold AP with a moon phase. Worn by the designer and founder of Valentino.

I’m hoping AP will explore these type of cases and designs again. They are really appealing and could balance out their entire collection lineup which is currently imo quite similar to the RO design. Nothing wrong with traditional well crafted Watches (even if it’s more of a PP or VC thing).

I actually quite like the 01. If AP designed it with a hand wound caliber and got the thickness to ~11mm, I think it'd have been a hit. Perhaps lose a mm or two on the case diameter as well.

edit: I'd still wear one w/ the current dimensions, full disclosure :>
