I have a deep respect for the brand. Excellent quality and attention to detail. They are not the most popular brand out there but I think they have filled the gap left by omega as they climb up-market. Omega was the best band for the buck (in a Swiss watch- Seiko still reigns supreme in the bang-for-buck category) but as their prices climb to Rolex level they leave a hole that Zenith can easily fill with their unique designs, legendary history and attractive pricing.

Do not overlook them!

They had some killer high-beat (36,000 if I recall correctly) movements that swept smoother than anything. I'd like to find one of those, maybe in white gold with a blue dial... excellent!

J!m, that whole high-beat segment of the vintage market is vastly underappreciated. Don't overlook the high-beat Hamiltons and Zodiacs. These are amazing movements, if you hold one up to your ear (and if your ears are better than mine are now), the sound is MANIC! There are even high-beat JLC alarms, but those have gone up in price substantially.

Zeith is a great brand with an amazing history. Poor marketing is their problem. If this brand went back to their roots and just stuck with the classic EP chronos and possibly some nice dress watches based on the Cal 135 chronometer manual wind movement they would do great. In recent times they went through the ugly phase like Tudor did in the late 90s.

I wish Tudor would integrate the EP Split Seconds movement into a watch. I would love to see this integrated into a design similar to the THC.

I have taken a look and the EP split seconds watches look fantastic...though I do prefer the one in steel.

I have had one in the pass and will own one again.
For years Zenith was locked out of the US market because of trademark issues with Zenith TV. So at least in the USA they weren't well known.

This is my Zenith, I want to buy something like Defy Xtreme. I'm expecting a super Uber cool sports watch as Jean Claude Biver is on the helm

I have an El Primero which I love--gorgeous watch and some personal sentimental attachment. Every time I wear it, I wonder why I don't give it more wrist time.

This. Perfect summary.

Their best watches are the oldest designs/more classic designs.

I think in the group they are sort of awkwardly placed. Hublot do well with more expensive, disruptive, eye catching designs. Tag offer value for money and sell well to non watch enthusiasts with their pricing strategy, and Zenith are sat in the middle. They are the only brand in the group who need to be less 'eye catching' in order to succeed.

I am considering 2 of their watches right now. I'm looking for a chronograph and a thin dress watch. The 38mm El Primero and 40mm Ultra Thin are great watches!

Nothing wrong with Zenith, just less people own them and there are a ton of great brands, if you get one get it used, as far as I know they take a beating on resale...

Defy model name is making a return – not sure that’s a wise decision.

Nice watches but I think they are searching for an identity. Hopefully Biver will do just that.

Less marketing is really the only difference. They're a great manufacture with excellent products in the realm of Rolex etc

Absolutely right. The worry is that Biver will futz it all up with his super-awful taste, huge cases and endless special editions. I'm not confident.

Nothing wrong with the brand, just little people knows about the great movements they make and that they made some great watches. More under the radar in that respect, which is a good thing!
