5110R Litterally in Love!
Guys,
I have been offered to trade my 16520A for a 5110R-001, at the beginning I was laughing, then i wear the watch, literally breathtaking, love at first sight! Now the price is really attractive, the only think is it looks small on my wrist. What do you think?

Nice watch but I don´t think I´d trade a 16520 for it.

Wears much too small on my wrist also, I’m not sure that’s a good look.

It’s not too small. Especially if you wear the watch properly just before the wrist bone, where the wrist is thinnest (rather than too high like you do in picture, where the wrist is widest).

I like the watch but how frequently would you wear it? I also think that it appears small on your wrist but if you are good with that and can adjust to it visually, go for it.

Don't sell the 16520. I think you make regret that in the future.
I do like the World Time, and it's not too small for you. |

The 5110 is gorgeous! The Daytona is also a great looking piece! It all depends on your taste!

I think it does look a bit small but then I wouldn't want a dress Patek to wear big so think it's OK here.

The 5110 exudes classic styling reminding us that, for most of horological history, a smaller case represented a greater mastery of mechanical miniaturization. Of course this compared it to the earlier pocket watches but I can see a future when mechanical watches are even more archaic (due a lessening interest of the younger generations) and the elegant case size becomes more appreciated. Hence the 5110 offers a greater tolerance to wrist size. I have a 5110R, <wink> <wink>

5110r... Only Patek i ever had twice (and the rare brass/gold Worldtime dealer wall clock too). Long-term there is very little doubt the Rolex will gain in value more than the 5110r. Agree it is the size of the Patek and common release more than anything else. Patek taking that same basic movement/idea and making 10 (???), 20, 30 (???) different versions including enamel and City specific versions. Thus the basic original 5110r might be the 'new original' after the highly valued very early versions, yet to many collectors the 5110 is nothing special.
Now if the dealer wants to trade straight up for the enamel or 5230G (ha!)... Your Rolex is on the way up for the foreseeable future and sizing is good, Patek 5110r, not so much and don't foresee it is the future do to it being a ordinary release when they have done 20(???) ltd edition specialty versions (and probably have 5 to 10 more to do before it all ends). JMHO If you really want the 5110r, it is very nice. Just make sure it has recently been serviced. Call Patek with movement# and ask when it was last serviced.

Look, I'll be the first to admit I'm not a fan or worldtimers in general. As long as DST remains part of our lives, the world timer is a watch that displays the incorrect time half the year. We perseverate over +/- 0.5 sec but we accept an hour or more of imprecision on a regular basis? No thanks. But this isn't always about practically is it? The 5110 is perfectly balanced and remains the classic and standard bearer amongst Patek's modern world timers. When Patek fiddled and increased its case dimensions with the 5130 they created far too much space on the outer chapter ring. Upsizing doesn't work unless you're willing to consider all aspects, including in some situation the movement and dial. For me the 5110 will remain the classic modern world timer in the same way the 3940 will remain the quintessential modern PC. The 5110 is and will always be something special. If only a reminder of the days when Patek got things right. That's my $0.02. You can keep the change. |
