Craigslist scam

If this needs to be relocated to another forum or deleted, please do.

With so many desperate folks trying to buy a watch, the temptation to buy a watch at a discount is appealing.

Here is an LV sub listed for $2500 on Craigslist posted within the past day.

https://denver.craigslist.org/jwl/d/...709339024.html

Same watch listed about a month ago for $18,900.

https://denver.craigslist.org/jwl/d/...699550104.html

If the watch wasn’t listed for $2500 but a more realistic price like $9000 someone my fall for it. I don’t know how this scam gets executed but a fake LV might be given. Card wouldn’t match so maybe nothing ever gets transacted and someone is ripped off.

Buyer beware. It’s been said many times, yet we keep reading about folks that get scammed some how.

If TRF chased every CL or FB scam, we’d need almost 100 million members cranking it 24x7.

I think the $2500 price tag provides its own warning. Caveat Emptor…

I think the $2500 price tag protects most people from this person. Hopefully, anyway.

Seriously, it's 2024 - everyone knows how to google what something is worth. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. I hope people don't fall for these scams.

The low price is because its harder to scam an honest person. They sell a fake (or just a straight scam!) to someone at a 'significantly below market price', presumably with a 'sad' story to go along with it (I found it in my dead grandpas drawer!).

They count on a dishonest buyer trying to take advantage of an uninformed grieving person and sell it for a 'super low' price, just for the mark to get the watch, thinking they were the scammer, and find out they were the scamm-ee!

Thats why all the 'fake' watches here end up being 'dead grandpa'/'dead dad' watches, they aren't here to 'test' out their wares, they are here to sell them via PM to someone lurking for a 'great deal' on a distressed asset (that of course, is a fake).

‘Dog bites man.’
‘Partly cloudy today’
‘Stock market volatile.’
‘There’s a Scam on CL’

Hard to get worked up.
