Recommended watchmakers in NYC

Hello TRFers,

Trying to help a friend out here. I'm looking for a competent watchmaker to do a polish and perhaps service on a friend's watch. It's not a Rolex, but a Cartier. Cartier quoted $350 to polish it! Any help finding a cheaper and probably better alternative would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim

I too am interested in this; the last time I had my watch serviced I sent it out but would rather have someone local next time; I was going to ask the last time I was in Wempe, because they seem to be the best bet as far as knowing who to trust besides RSC NYC.

I could also ask William Barthman, but I believe they have in house watchmakers, and I cannot speak for their work as I have not used them (the sales staff is the best though)

I would recommend Manhattan Time Service http://www.watchrepairny.com/

I gave my vintage Russian watch to them about a week and a half ago for a full cleaning and oiling. Their prices were very competitive and I have heard good reviews about the place. The deal with luxury watches (Rolex, Cartier, etc.) and have many parts on hand.

I also recommend them. I had a friend who brought a Tudor sub to them for repair and service. He was very pleased with the work, price and turnaround time.

There's also a shop in Grand Central terminal that is very reputable. You can find their information on that Hodinkee link.

I have gone to Central Watch. They are really nice.
Another watchmaker that came recommended by Antiquorum was Alkis Kotsopoulos.
He's the official Lange service center in NY but he also does Rolexes.
