GMT model with the most upside?
I've been doing a bit of research into the GMT product line. I really like the newer models, especially the BLNR, but it's very pricey. Are there good opportunities for strong upside? I was thinking about buying a TT 1675 w/out original dial + hands for almost $4k. What about the Pepsi model? I would like to hear people's thoughts on this. I am basically looking for a nice affordable piece that would make for a nice restoration project potentially, at a nice $3-$4.5k price range. Do any good deals exist, and where would I look?
I personally think that a 1675 GMT looks incredible on a NATO strap. I love older watches with a bit of character. |

Save up and do it right or don't do it at all. Your budget leaves a lot of room for a fantastic original DateJust or even Explorer or Explorer 2...

I love vintage GMTs and my fav is the Root beer and then the Pepsi one. But I would take any of them anytime. While I like the newer ones, I find the maxi-everything a little bit over the top.
I like your idea of the project. While it would be an expensive venture on the long term I think it could be rewarding =). |

16710 is very versatile. You can change insert and creat a new watch over the years.

Buy the best condition watch your budget allows. 16700 seem to be sleepers among the GMTs for now, upside as they get more attention.

I started with a 1675 fixer upper and it's already cost me $1500 over the $3k sticker in parts and gasket change without a full service. I would recommend a 16700 or a 16710 (sapphire crystals) with the three different inserts. The 16700 may be the right one for you because it's a gmt master not a master II so it's slightly more vintage. Good luck and happy hunting.

My GMTs
There are so many options, these are mine. I usually wear the 16760 most as it has all the GMT features and the size of a Sub.

The 16710 or original Pepsi's. Especially with the WG version coming out at 38k I think they will become a very attractive pricepoint.

Thanks for all of the responses, guys. The one I was considering did not have the original "nipple" dial, nor hands. Are 1675's generally more expensive/valuable than the newer ones?

16710 - retains as much versatility as it does character.
