Did bid, I went up to £2800, ended on £3.2k, couldn't bring myself to go above that as with add ons it would have been well over £4k by time finished.

Plus they were never able to open the back

That was my thinking- was surprised. But as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, a vintage Rolex never goes unnoticed now.

Looks like you made the right choice then mate.
You can pick a decent one up for good money and without the hassle of repairs etc.
Try and find yourself something that has been serviced in the past and you'll sleep a lot better knowing it has been looked after and is all working fine.
What's the use of a Rolex that can't tell the time?

Completely agree. As mentioned in earlier post prefer the 5512/5513s anyway. Thought this might have been worth a punt though.

If bought by a dealer I don't see where their profit is. 4k for watch then get fully repaired (may be cheaper for them) then sell for max 4.5, of doesn't need new movement only gonna make £100. Seems like false economics to me
