I'll take the bait... two weeks' pre-tax income. I bought it after hitting a financial target as a reward.

I can't walk away from even one dollar on the ground.

Please pardon the rude behavior within some of the comments. I understand your question (I think). I wouldn't approach the decision based on a percentage of income, but on percentage of discretionary income. If your single you buy what you want with your play money. All of it on a weekend in Vegas, boat, sports car, Harley or Rolex. If you're married with teenagers in the home, I find that everyone wants a piece of Dad's discretionary funds, so I have to piece it out accordingly, always making sure Mama gets something nice too. With all of that said, I say 20% of discretionary income annually max on a single item such as a Rolex. Works for me in my world.

WHOAA .. was not expecting this.. lol!

Lets see if I can articulate this appropriately. Purchasing a submariner is a big purchase but it is not going to break my bank. I love the watch and I want it. However, I also live in a land of naysayers and belong to a culture where spending money on a watch is not considered an astute choice. It's all right to drive the latest German cars, live in huge houses, and vacation frequently. But a watch is a no-no.

The only positive reinforcement I receive regarding purchasing a Rolex is on this forum. Hence, I was looking for some perspective.

Thank you all for your feedback.
