1970 Rolex Datejust 1601 black dial

Hello everybody,

My name is Gilles, I'm 30 years old and here is a picture of my first Rolex Datejust 1601 "No Lume Dial" from 1970!

What do you think of it ?

Do you have better picture to post? The minute track markers seem to be wavy, which makes me want to think this could be a refinished dial

Here you can have a closer look. Something wrong with the dial?

I never saw a minute track maker like this on a 1601...did somebody see something like this datejust before? the minute marker aren't on the outside of the watch (I' don't know if you see what I mean, it's not after the hours maker)

It's an original dial, very characteristic markers for that period but most likely refinished. Very common back in the day. It's a part of your watch's history. You can get an original dial easily or leave it like it is. The originality nazis would have you change it to be original although it wouldn't be original, We have to destroy the village to save the village. :)

Enjoy your beautiful watch. :)

Thanks for your answer which help me to understand the history of my watch a bit better!! I honestly didn't think it was refinished because the dial is already not "pure" perfect black but a bit clearer...but I understood that it may have been refinished maybe 20 or 30 years ago lol. For me it's part of the history of the watch and I won't change it ;)

It's a refinished dial for sure.
