White v red

Can anyone tell me why there seems much more red 1680s than the white mk1,2 and they fetch much more when a lot of reds are service dials are the whites undervalued ?

I don't think there are more reds than white, and the whites have skyrocketed in value in the last year or 2 (obviously, reds have also). I think we've seen more reds trading as their prices rise, but whites are now trading more also.

x2. However, I still see more reds out there on the market, probably because they command higher prices so people are trying to cash in more. I do think, and have always thought, the white 1680s were undervalued, but that is changing, as noted.

I actually prefer the white 1680s (aesthetically, not value-wise). It's got a cleaner look and the hour plots appear bigger than on the red 1680s for some reason. The tritium also seems to take on a more creamy patina, presumably because it's a later, different mixture than the tritium used on the earlier red 1680s. None of this is scientific, but is based just on my experience of owning three red 1680s and two white 1680s through the years.
